The QB coach and the receiver coach should also go. Neither has done much to add to the developement of the offense.
Im not sure if the QB Coach will go. I actually kno Matt Cavanugh and Rex called him right after Rex got the Jets job, and wanted him as the QB coach because he was with him during the Ravens Super Bowl victory. They spent many years together, I think they might have a closer relationship, but Schottys different because he stayed from the last regime, Im not sure how much Rex likes him.
I totally agree with you and also their running back coach Lynn and WR coach Ellard have to go too. we also need to bring in an ex defensive lineman to coach the DL, why do we have an ex DB coaching the DL. Another Rex buddy and that sucks. What many people don't understand it that your window only stays open so long and we cost this team three years with assholes like Woody and defending Shittenheimer. Does anyone remember how he carried on like a baby when he interviewed for the job and it was given to Rex. You know what the sad part is, he would have to be a better head coach then OC.
I kno him to a certain extent, ive spoken with him yeah a couple times. Hes my best friends Uncle so obviously ive heard all the stories from Matts point of view. Matt was pumped to be back in the NFL when Rex called him. What sucks tho is I was going to get a ticket to go to the Super Bowl had the Jets made it. My friend was very lucky, when the Ravens won it in 2000 he got to go to the Super Bowl AND the after party with the players/coaches family and friends. I couldnt even imagine going to a Super Bowl after party, my mind wouldve been blown had the Jets did it last year (or the year before) I woulda been able to =( And honestly thats the reason why I hope the Jets keep Matt, hes my only way to ever go to a Super Bowl after party.
If Schotty goes would the new OC want to bring in his own people anyway? If often seems to happen that way.
LULZ @ firing Anthony Lynn. Stupidity at its finest. Top 5 rushing team for 3 years with Lynn and now we want to get rid of him instead of ...maybe...changing to more capable RBs? How about we see what Bilal Powell can do? Draft a late rounder or udfa RB?
Anthony Lynn is my aunt's illegitimate fun-baby and he told me that Brian Schottenheimer sucks his thumb during film sessions.
If you change the offensive coordinator then the new OC should get to pick his own staff (obviously in conjunction with Rex and Tanny and Woody)--he shouldn't be stuck with people who coached using a different system if he doesn't want them. I've got to figure that it's going to be somebody like Norv Turner and he's going to want to bring a lot of the SD guys with him.
I would like to see Cavanaugh go too. I mean he doesn't have much of a track record with QB's in Baltimore either. Sure he hasn't had the best to work with but not sure if he really is elevating anyones game.
I would love to see him replaced, but I think we are stuck with him as well as Sanchez for the near term. As bad as he is, he probably recognizes that Sanchez does not have the accuracy or the wits to play a vertical offense. Watching Brees this past Monday night was magically mouth watering. How is it that nearly every pass play attempted by the offense has all the receivers running past the 1st down marker? I rarely ever see this in the Jets offense, and when they do run that far downfield, they can't get open, or Sanchez overthrows/underthrows them, or the INT happens. A lack of skills on the QB part
There are many problems that prevent a vertical game. 1) Sanchez is one of the worst QB's in the league in passing accuracy. 2) The O line doesn't protect him long enough to let deeper patterns develop. 3) The Jets WR's can't get separation 4) The OC can't seem to design plays to get them separation Pick your choice but all of these factors contribute to a putrid passing attack. Your comment regarding receivers getting "PAST" the first down marker is the one the bothers me the most in Schotty's play calling. He rarely calls plays that put receivers in position to catch the ball beyond the sticks. That is on him, not the players. What is also on Schotty is that he calls either crossing patterns or quick outs to Dustin Keller. We've all seen the highlights on those that succeed but for the most part they don't. This is because Keller isn't quick enough to get separation on those routes, Sanchez isn't accurate enough to consistently hit him between the numbers on those plays and more often than not Keller is doubled on those plays because Schotty can't seem to design plays to get him in single coverage. I'd much rather see Keller sit down in the zone on seam routes than in outs or crossing patterns. Those patterns are what Kerley and Tone need to run along with plax going deep so that the middle is open for the seam to keller or he can "try" to hit one of the other receivers. Its December in year 3. Sanchez still can't read progressions and Schotty still can't put personnel in the right position to succeed.
Well tell MattCav to stop acting like a bitch and let Sanchez have fun. There's no need to kill the fukin party after every TD he throws.
very good analysis, spot on. Both OC and QB are garbage. I think they need to start working on the O line with the upcoming draft. We need guys who are not only good run blockers, but athletic enough to allow our QB, to make 5 and 7 step drops. This will give us more options on offense. Although the QB inaccuracies might show up more.
I agree. We need the new faces in here that we should have had when Rex started. Never got the point of bringing back losers when Rex clearly came in to change the culture of our team. Schotty represents everything I'd like to forget about NY Jets football.
he won't be the only one. Westhoff may just retire at the end of this season. As for the offense, I think Callahan should be kept but I have no opinion on the rest of Schottenheimer's position coaches
