I didn't say that Houston/Blaylock were the answer for the Jets, and I suppose in fairness the question of the poll was which RB should BECOME a Jet, which they already are. I just don't think we should be trading away draft picks to improve this year. I can understand Tangini wanting to do it because they are the youngest duo in the NFL this year and if they do poorly, it will come down on them hard, so they would like to win a few games. I personally don't think any of those RB's are worth trading for and would like to see what we have in our stable(I don't think we have much) and if needs be, draft a guy next year. We have started an incredible youth movement and the team is truely just a few players away from being great, IMO.
What a spineless outlook. Not for nothing but an improved O-line (which we have), a healthy Chad (which we have), a good running game (which we DON'T have) and a solid defense (which it looks like we might have) could give us an 8-8 team with the schedule we have, maybe better depending upon our defense. Adding Thomas or Julius Jones would give us a RB for the next 4 years, and in the middle of the first round of next years draft we can target a NT (because replacing DRob is going to be a MUCH bigger need than anyone is talking about right now). If even if we do in fact suck after acquiring an experienced RB this year, we would have a RB so we could look at Jarrett or Calvin Johnson and get ourselves a young stud WR. I could live with Clemens, Jones, Coles and Jarrett as our offensive playmakers over the next 4 years... you?
Wow - mortaging the future could get us 8-8! The consensus is to go with what we have and see if anyone on the roster emerges. If not, fill the spot next year. The Jets are in no position to be trading draft picks, especially early round picks, for a tretread back.
The real question is, should the Jets A. Find a short term answer at halfback through trade (which probably means trade a middle round pick for a player who may or may not be better than what weve already got) B. Find a long term answer through trade, which means your going to have to pay big in terms of a player or pick in return, and maybe the player is or isnt the long term answer (if Parcells isnt sold on Julius Jones as a premier back, than Im not either). C. Wait with what we have and pick something up later on down the road. Its always possible that Martins knee will come around before the season starts or early in the season, or that one of our other backs will step it up and give the CS some confidence in them. Im not sure who else besides Adrian Peterson is coming out next year... but Peterson would be a great addition to the team. In principle, I personally lean towards C, but Id definetely swing a trade for Michael Turner, say for a third rounder or less. Hes never carried the load and hes in the final year of his contract, so I dont know if Id feel good about giving up more than that.
A. Lee Suggs for a 6th or 7th rounder is what I'd go for; if not that, just go with what the Jets have B. that's not happening unless the Jets trade for Chris Brown and that would not be good; I don't like that player, nor do I like Julius Jones C. Peterson, Kenny Irons, Kenneth Darby, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Bush, Alley Broussard...those are some guys to watch this season, see how they play this year, see if they stay healthy
We need to poke our heads in and see what the prices for Deuce and Thomas Jones are... if it's too high then stay put, go 6-10 and then we can grab our franchise runner in a very depth draft. If we're not in position for Peterson or Lynch then we can package one of our 2nd rounders to get up and get one of them.
Julius Jones would be a great back for us. I heard things that we almost aquired him in some sort of trade during the draft.
a bunch of real talented players on that list, but the greatest possibility is probably chris brown. brown is an extreme playmaker who has just had problems staying on the field. i think he'd really do well here, however, its just adding another mediocre to above average running back into an already crowded backfield. i would let the RB situation play out, and allowing blaylock and houston to get the majority of the carries, and leon washington getting 3-4 touches a game. after about 5 games or so we'll know which of the 3 backs is our best option to start.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJQY18MWi6k Turner the burner baby. Hes big ( 237 lbs) runs a 4.4 and is a threat to take it to the house. Check the video. This kid is a beast. He had a 83 yd run last season. WOw! Over 5 ypc, and he rarely goes down with one hit.
Whoa... there is no scenario in which it would require "mortgaging the future"... drama queen. The most we would give up in any scenario is a second round pick, and that would be for Julius or Thomas Jones... most of the other guys would command much less in a trade.I said we would then be able to address NT or WR in next year's first round or are those positions of no importance? Look at it this way, we trade the 2nd rounder from Washington for Julius Jones. We draft Dwayne Jarrett in the top 10 with our first rounder. In the second round we select a NT and third a DE/OLB. We come out of the 2007 day one with... Julius Jones Dwayne Jarrett NT OLB/DE Our future would be lost... for sure.
Cedric Houston and Derrick Blaylock. The 2006 Jets are lost already in a highly competitive AFC East. Lets see what these two have if Martin is not available, and then plan accordingly for the draft if a RB is still required.
