I was ! Took my 3 young cousins to the game.....remember it was freezing....I got great seats from a connection in the NY Jets front office (via Jim Kensil's son I think). Kept ordering hot chocolate and we didn't drink it, just used it to warm our hands ! Only negative was we were at the other end of the stadium when Toon caught the ball. Only year I had NYJ season tickets. I couldn't take the commute and gave them up even though they had a decent year.
Yep. Section 326, Row 16, Seats 17, 18, 19, and 20. I remember it like it was yesterday, because one of my season ticket buddies kept his coat zipped the whole time we were tailgating. When we got to our seats, he reveals his Giants sweatshirt underneath. He picked a great time to let me know, "I like the Jets, but I've really been a Giants fan my whole life." I was ready to throw him off the top deck.
Sure was! And Toon's TD was in my end-zone, to our right in section 122. I remember our chants of "Jets Eagles Rams!" which were the three teams needing a victory that weekend to KO the Giants, which is exactly what happened. Funny, my brother and I still say that to this day, just for the hell of it. he's in Texas now, and from the parking lot on any given game day, i'll call down there and when he answers I'll just say "Jets Eagles Rams?" - and he knows I'm at the stadium. We brought our brother in law who's a Giants fan. He roots for the Jets the other times he comes to the games but obviously couldn't on that day. Before leaving the house I grabbed a green stick of makeup on the way out that we had in the house left over from Halloween. My brother and I scheme to paint our faces only if the Jets took a lead, which we weren't sure would ever happen. Sure enough, the Jets strike first with a FG to go up 3-0. "Lets go!" so, we run off to the mens room and return with green make up on. We didn't even cover our face green, just stripes down the nose, and the Jets plane-shape thing on our foreheads and "J's" on each cheek. It looked as stupid as it sounds. Great memory.
I was actually sorry the Giants missed the playoffs, as I liked them better than the other NFC teams. Couldn't stand SanFran. I remember Simms was pissed at the 49'ers/Ronnie Lott when they layed down on MNF and the Giants got eliminated.
I thought about it, believe me, but that would have left his wifewithout a husband, and his daughter without a father.
home watching on TV I was only 10 years old at the times and my Mom said I couldn't go because I had school the next day yeah right
I was a senior in college, watched the game from my place up in Poughkeepsie, one of my favorite all-time Jet games. On a personal note, 1988 was a year of revenge and paybacks, being at school with a bunch of New York fans. •Devils knocked the Rangers out of the playoffs on the last night of the regular season, then beat the Islanders in the first round. •Dodgers beat the Mets in 7 games in the NLCS after losing 10 of 11 in the regular season and blowing Game 1 in the 9th inning. •Jets finished off the LT/Simms Giants in this game. Also beat Pittsburgh for the first time ever, one of my roommates was a Steeler fan. Here's an article on the 1988 Jet-Giant game I posted yesterday: link.
Was it Mike Kensil? I worked with a guy who hooked me up with him back in '95 to get me tickets for a Jets Dolphins game in Miami. It was Chrebet's debut game, though we weren't thinking about him yet. What a disaster game that was. 48-14 or something. I remember flying home Monday AM reading some Ft. Lauderdale or Miami Herald sports douchebag's column in the paper making fun of the Jets in general, and Chrebet in particular, referring to him as "Sherbet" saying "doesn't matter what his name is, he won't be around for much longer" Then went on to proclaim Miami's week 2 game as "the Dolphins REAL opener. This was just another exhibition game" Of course later that same season we beat them at home, as bad as we were. And, I got my revenge three years later ('98) when I went back there and was in the stands for the Sunday Night Cascadden game win. One of my cherished Jets moments. F*cking Dolphins. Hope they can step it up soon so I can continue hating them. Guess I'll get that chance next week. Just hope they're not stepping it up against us. Getting back on-topic, how many Jets/Giants regular season games have you all seen? Any old Yale-Bowlers out there reading this? I've been to as many Jets/Giants Jets home games they've had since '79, (looked it up - there've been four. Giants won three of four, Wish one could have been at Shea) but also went to two of the Giants-hosted contests. '99 when Ray Lucas was behind center (Jets loss) and I also went to the last one in 2007, another Jets loss. I think in that game Plaxico humiliated one of our D-backs with a stiff arm, and scored a TD that turned the game their way, Hope he returns the favor to to them Saturday. So, my record attending Jets Giants games is a pathetic 1-5. I'M DUE DAMN IT. Which leads me to another point: While the media wants everyone to think Rex is a trash talker, all he's trying to say is he's not taking a backseat to anyone, and wants his team to feel the same way, especially in their own home city and stadium, shared or not. He's not disrespecting the Giants - they get all the respect around here and have for years. he's trying to pump his team up, and Jets fans too. Thinking of my 1-5 record, I am glad he is.
No, we were 8-7-1, technically a winning season. I was at the tie vs KC early in the season, the only tie I've ever attended, not counting hockey and Tball.
No we DIDNOT win the SB so it was just another losing season for us. Someday you will come to the realization that if you dod not win the Championship then U R a loser in the NFL like all the other teams who also do not win the Championship
Somehow I knew you were coming back with that, which is why I used the word "technically". Math: Can't fuck with it.
Champ - if nothing else you are relentless. I was surprised too when I saw you proclaimed 1988 as a losing season. I suppose you were setting us up for that. Italian took the bait. Nice move! I'm speaking for the others, but in this very rare exception, it'd be OK -at least with me, if you became a Steelers fan, or better yet, Packers the current "it" team. That way the nickname Champ will be more appropriate. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if you had a second secret team you root for. You might even have season tickets for that team, and also not go to those games. Just seems Jets wins aren't good enough for you and if we do win another VLT your joy will last only until the following NFL draft. I'm just teasing. We need Champ to swoop in to remind us from time to time that we're all losers, even in a thread like this one where we least expect it.
I was ready for him, knew what was coming. We're just trading jabs, this is round one. By game time the haymakers will be flying, then if we win champ will disappear again until we lose. I'd like to thank the Eagles for bringing champ back to the forum for a big holiday week.
we all know champ's really a Giants fan.....he would be the dude mentioned earlier in the thread, with the zipped coat to reveal the Giant sweatshirt at kickoff
Nah I be around until we win a CHAMPIONSHIP like the Super Bowl very sad that between our owners, FO, coaches we have had so many years are ineptitude really very, very sad
