This board is for conversation and banter. What else do we have to talk about mid week? I'm not looking for an answer as if this is going to happen because, well, its not going to. That being said I think its an interesting topic to talk about and apparently I'm not lone Mr WW85.
What's with the tude?? "Mr WW85". I offered my opinion on this topic, I think it's stupid to suggest Luck to the Jets. Don't make a big deal about it since you were the OP. IMO, it's not "interesting".
think it's a fair discussion. The Jets forums is littered with "what if" threads. I still maintain you retain Sanchez and trade out for picks, in the unlikely scenario
Agreed. It's in interesting hypothetical, even though it's incredibly unlikely to happen. I think I'm with you on this one GQ. I know that Luck is supposed to be the second coming, and I am actually losing some faith in Sanchez to be perfectly honest. But I'm not sure at this point I'd want the team starting over again at QB. Like you said, get more picks and try to draft immediate/type playmakers (yeah, I know, most rookies aren't that).
It's pretty harmless. The draft forum is a place for idle speculation, especially in those "day after the draft" draft prediction threads. Even now there's room for radical change between now and April. One could ask the point of even bothering with draft talk before all information is known. This thread differs in that it's based on no likely information. We won't be drafting first. It's pure fantasy, but it's interesting for some. I'd imagine you spent more time criticizing it than anyone did actually responding. My thought process was "I'm a huge Luck fan and would love to have a Stanford player on the roster." Then I moved on before checking this morning while bored.
Thanks for your input. This is the reason I posted this in the Draft forum and not on the main forum. If this was on the main forum I know I would have gotten bashed for it and rightfully so. Like I said in my original post. I don't necessarily think we are going to have the #1 overall pick I don't necessarily think we need to replace Sanchez Just a opportunity that would force the user to step in Tanny's shoes and make one of the most difficult decisions any GM would ever have to make. IMO its fun Banter
Just trade down for A LOT of picks, you have an average qb and can make the team much stronger by adding tallent by all the picks you receive instead of just drafting a slightly better QB and keeping the level even
Our team has a lot of talent right now. We are fairly young, and are really close to being a dominate team. What are our immediate needs? OT (IMO) We need depth on our Oline, but we really need a starting OT. Our RB's are solid, and our WR corp is above average, and we have a good to great TE in the making. We do not have a QB that scares people. We can love or hate on him as much as you want, but he doesn't scare anyone. We can survive with our safeties. We are deep in our CB's, our lb's are getting better, and we have a solid young DL. So our defense is solid to above average. With that said, Sanchez is due to make 14+ million next year(only 5+ guarantee), and 8+ in 2013. If Luck was drafted #1, under the new CBA rules, he would cost us approximately 5+ million a year if you set it up even (Based on Newton's deal 4yr 22mil). We could trade Sanchez and a lot of picks (What would it take?) to obtain the #1 overall pick, draft Luck, and save 4 million next year to sign a free agent tackle. Luck has been hyped up to be the best QB to ever come out of the draft, and you have to ask yourself, "Is Sanchez going to be an elite QB, or Do I want to potentially have the next Peyton Manning(or you choose the QB)?" I would say yes, yes I do. It makes sense to me on every level. I could honestly see Indy taking Sanchez and 2 (1st) in a trade.
From a GM stand point it is a no brainer. Luck is going to create much more hype for our team (selling more shit), I am going to save 4 million in 2012 to use in FA, I am (most likely) upgrading at QB, we have the SB coming to our house in a couple years, that I don't believe my current QB is capable of taking to the SB. All I am risking is a couple of 1st's that are going to most likely be late 1st rounders anyway, and my current QB.
Could this happen? Probably not, but damn its interesting to think about. How deep would we have to go to go and get this guy if Tanny did decide to go all in. I still feel hope with Sanchez. The man is clutch and i feel with a better pash rush, playcalling, RT, FS, and blocking TE we could maybe get ourselves a championship. But the ceiling of Luck is just so orgasmic to think about. Especially in green and white.
This team has so many holes, on both offense and defense. We need a consistent RT to solidify the line. We also need to find a RG to replace more within the next two years. We need a solid #2 WR and possibly even another WR for depth. We need a capable #2 TE that can actually block very well and catch a little bit. Our RB's might be solid, but there is a good chance LT isnt on the team next year. Shonn Greene is a decent ground and pound back, he wont break any long runs, is not a game changer and cant catch. He simply is just "okay". Add injury to our backfield as it currently is, and its bellow solid. On Defense, our safeties are shitty in coverage. Plain and simple. Jimmy is capable and is decent, no better than that, and most importantly, hes expendable. Eric smith is a pile of garbage who serves no purpose. And Brodney Pool has shown a little bit here and there, but always seems to be injured. DL and CB im not worried about. The LBs are old. Pace is and Scott are getting up there in age and their replacements must be brought in ASAP. Point is, that if we are giving away a ton of picks, its not worth it. If the price is right and could be done for 2 1sts and Sanchez, I would do it.
This.. despite what some people may believe, we are not a QB away from a dominant force. Sanchez is not a terrible QB and I truthfully am nowhere near giving up on Sanchez, I want nothing more than for him to be our QB of the future. Our LB and OL need to be addressed early in the draft, I know safety is a common concern, but with the talent coming out this year, it seems we are better off going through FA (Michael Griffin would look good in green and white).. And there a few nice TEs and WRs to be scooped up in the 3rd and 4th rounds.. But in addition to all that, there are going to be a bunch of trade offers, and the price is going to be way too high for what we would be trying to accomplish
I'm with the last two posters - we have a whole bunch of holes throughout the team and we would be better off filling these holes rather than putting everything we have into a "gamble" on Luck. I'n no Sanchez fan but until we have a decent OC to run the offence and a quality Offensive Line we don't really know what he can do? I don't think he is a franchise QB but there is no guarantee Luck will be either.
