The other day I was flipping through the Jets 1997 Yearbook and paused for a minute when I got to the coaches section. What an all star cast of coaches we had... Parcells: head coach(first year w/ Jets), Belichick: assistant head coach/defensive backs, Romeo Crennel: defensive line, Charlie Weis: wide receivers, Al Groh: linebackers coach, Ron Erhardt: quarterbacks/special assistant coach, and finally ERIC MANGINI: defensive assistant/quality control. Quality Control? WTF.... Too bad Parcells jumped shipped along with the rest of his cronies (minus Al Groh). Can you imagine how many titles we would have won.....

Mangini the Quality Control coach. Can someone please tell me what the hell that means? Do other teams have a quality control guy?

just look at that lineup though, that may have been one of the best coaching staffs ever assembled.

It probably was one of the best. There was a thing on ESPN a while back on Mike Holmgrens '92 coaching staff at green bay. This staff included Andy Reid, Steve Mariucci, Dick Jauron, Ray Rhodes and Jon Gruden - not bad.

I knew in the abstract that they were all Jet coaches then, but i never thought of it as a "staff." That really is pretty impressive. Holmgren's looks more impressive as of now, but we'll see.

He's responsible for breaking down film for the coaching staff, I believe.

That and a bunch of other sfuff. It's a pretty important spot.... they decide what the CS will see on film, since the upper tier coaches can't go through all the film. That is for both the Jets, and the upcoming opponent. You have to have a guy you can trust in that position, one who's football smarts is respected.

    the coaching ladder

Yes Sash every NFL team has an offensive and defensive quality control guy..it's the first step in the coaching rung followed by position coach, OC or DC then Head Coach..special team coach's are like coordinator's

WOW what a staff....I think we can truly write our own destiny with Mangini, He is a hard is ass so far and seems to be a TEAM first guy. Can you imagine Kevin Mawe or John Abraham on this team right now. Mawe would be bashing him in the papers and...while we know Abe would have Mono or something till he got on the plane to Tenessee. This staff is just what this orginization needed, so far so good. I love how the media is now finally having to do some work and build some relationships, just like the old days!

Lets just hope that Woodro dosent give up on good old Eric after 2 years....Next bill Cower?? Would love to see him in Green and White for a long time (Mabye I'm getting ahad of myself)?

With the exception of Gruden and barely Holmgren, they're a bunch of retreads at this point who've never won anything. The Parcells staff could line them all up against a wall and throw their super bowl rings off their foreheads....

    Belichick 5 rings (3 Patriots, 2 Giants)
    Parcells 2 Rings (Giants)
    Crenell 5 rings (3 Patriots, 2 Giants)
    Weiss 4 rings (3 Patriots, 1 Giants)
    Mangini 3 rings (Patriots)
