The latest headline on ESPN Insider NFL Rumor Central is "Jets Eying Brown?"

On ESPN's NFL Main Page it also says "Jets leading suitor for RB Brown?

Is a trade in the works? That would boost the offense alot, especially if he can stay healthy.

    Jets eyeing Brown?
<Aug. 7> With doubts about starting RB Curtis Martin's ability to play at a high level this season, the Jets have inquired about Brown, according to The Newark Star-Ledger.
Brown is the Titans' starter, but the fourth-year back has requested a trade because he figures to share carries with a pair of newcomers -- Travis Henry and LenDale White. Brown's agent, Ryan Morgan, said last week that the Dolphins are on his client's list of teams where he would like to be traded.

"[Dolphins coach Nick] Saban has them going in the right direction," Morgan told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "They clearly want to run the ball. Chris sees the talent on offense they have in Daunte Culpepper, Chris Chambers and Ronnie Brown and he would be fine competing in a two-back system."

Titans general manager Floyd Reese has said Brown is not on the block.

Jet's Leading Suitor For Chris Brown?...Who has ESPN Insider?

I was just on ESPN.com and they have an ESPN Insider story in Rumor Central Titled "Jet's Leading Suitor for RB Brown". Does anyone have insider and can you post the article here? I don't like this. Stay with a three man rotation in 2006 if you have to, but don't trade for guy that's hurt a lot. Keep those two second rounders for 07!

It doesnt say anything in the Rumor Central...just that they have inquired about him. Nothing saying that they are front runners.

Would Brown really like the situation we have going on here? I mean he wants a trade because of the two other RB's that Tennessee has.(Travis Henry and Lendale White and doesn't want to split time with three backs.)

AND if he can't beat them out in Tenn. do we really want him here?

I'm pretty sure that Travis Henry and Lendale White are 30 times better than Leon Washington and Cedric Houston...and if Mangini traded for Chris Brown, I'm pretty sure he'd let him get 80% of the carries.

Why do the Jets need this guy?? Let's see if Houston and/or Blaylock and/or Askew and/or Washington can do the job. If not, then use one of the first or second round draft picks next year for a back. RB is the easiest position to fill in football. If the Jets panic and give up too much it will be a huge mistake. The Patriots won the SB with Antoin Smith and Kevin Faulk.

Let's trade for a fourth round RB to start in front of our fourth rounder. :sarcastic:

This is stupid. We already have 4 backs. If curtis can't go, so what. We got 3 quality backs left in my opinion. And IMO, I think a blaylock/washington or houston/washington duo splitting the snaps, would be very successful.

I hope this is all blown up by the media and the jets aren't really serious about this.....a 2nd for chris brown is horrible for us.

Why would he want to go to the dolphins if he wants carries? Ronnie Brown > Lendale & Henry

He'd get more carries in Tenessee

He isn't good enough to be a feature back so he wants to go to a team where there is no heated competition at backup.

With everything the new FO has done this offseason, it would really suprise me if they gave up a second rounder for Chris Brown. RB is a relatively easy position to fill, and that is a very high price to pay for an often injured player. They will evaluate the talent already on the roster this season, and acquire a RB next season if needed.

1067 yards, 6 td's in 04. Averaged 4.9 yards a carry. You sure he isn;t good enough? He's sure better than what we have now.

I like Chris Brown...probably because he did nicely in my Fantasy Football team back in '04. In the 11 games he started that season, he rushed for over 100 yards in 6 of those games. To top it off, he was averaging nearly 5 yards a carry too.

Having said that, I still don't think the Jets should go after him. He's got a good combo of size and speed, but the question is whether he can maintain a complete, healthy season as the feature back. So far, he's failed to prove that. Jets already have a young, promising group of RBs behind Martin and since it's a rebuilding year, I'd rather see what they're capable of instead of bringing in more competition. Unless it's for a mid round pick, I wouldn't go after him.
