I've noticed this season that for the most part, when Sanchez makes one of those throws that are behind his receiver and make you think/yell "WHAT WAS THAT!" it seems to almost always be at Santonio Holmes. Is this just me? I would absolutely LOVE to see a stat of his completion percentage to Homes vs. his completion percentage to everyone else. If somebody was able to find that stat it would be very interesting. Maybe Sanchez just underestimates the quickness of Holmes. It could just be a simple systematic error like that. These are things that should be worked out in practice, no excuse.
I have noticed that he does throw behind Holmes quite a bit. Not sure why, but it would be nice if they work hard on this in the off season.
Holmes also never breaks off the route on 3rd down throws, always trying to come inside on the defense, when the first down marker is wide open.
8 drops by the bills ... about right. Sanchez hit bill defenders in the hands all day. Sanchez was behind a number a guys - holmes a few times...turner in the end zone -- if it was up and out it is a TD instead is was low and back shoulder on a slant.
There was maybe 1 or 2 drops by Buf, just b/c a player gets a hand on a ball doesn't mean it is a drop. W/ that said the Jets had a ton of drops where they had 2 hands and should have caught the ball.
I would bet on it, just b/c a QB throws an INT doesn't mean it is his fault. Some are, many probably are, but not all are.
Could also be game speed vs practice speed. I know someone recently brought up Namath at camp last year telling the WRs to go game speed at practice. Maybe Tone dogs it a little at practice while running routes and Sanchez expects similar speeds in games
Not sure. I would need to watch the game again. It also depends what you consider a "drop". 3 plays stick out in my mind. 1. The interception which has been dissected to death on TGG. 2. The 3rd down where it appears that Holmes is clearing out for Mulligan in the flat and Sanchez throws the out. Somebody is at fault here. 3. A pass over the middle that is clearly thrown behind Homes but he manages to get his hands on it.
yes more excuses is what sanchez needs. how about he overthrows/underthrows just about everyone especially in stride
Sanchez has become a complete enigma to me at this point. I don't know how he can be so inconsistent. One play he'll make a throw that really makes you feel good about him playing QB, the next throw makes you think the guy in the 30th row of the upper deck would make a better decision with years of Madden experience.
totally agree that he is an enigma. Some of his throws he directs traffic and throws a dart inches from a linebackers hands and into a tight window -- other times he misses a wide open screen.
the only time I seem to recall him playing well consistently is the first drive or two after the break. or i may be imagining this.
It is crazy to watch, or even look at the stats. Just as an example, here are some stats from the first half of the bills game Sanchez started 0-4: First Quarter: 0-1 incomplete 0-2 incomplete 0-3 incomplete 1-5 Competed first pass for 3 yard gain with 1:32 left in the first quarter. So his whole first quarter was shitty. I'd have to go back to watch the game, maybe he had some drops, but for whatever reason the Jets passing offense came out very cold. Queue the second quarter: Second Quarter 2-6 M. Sanchez passed to P. Burress to the right for 8 yard gain 2-7 incomplete 3-8 - M. Sanchez passed to S. Holmes to the left for 6 yard gain 3-9 incomplete 4-10 - M. Sanchez passed to D. Keller to the left for 3 yard touchdown. N. Folk made PAT After going 0-4, Sanchez hits on 4 of 6 of his next pass attempts and scores a touchdown. Crazy. Sanchez then has a cold streak again. He's off the field for 5 minutes, and comes back on for a three and out, throwing two incompletions in a row: 4-11 incomplete 4-12 incomplete Sanchez then goes and sits on the sidelines for awhile, and doesn't get to attempt another pass until there is 3:31 left in the second quarter. It's been 9 minutes in gametime since his last completion which was a touchdown. He's set up to run a horribly drawn up play..a play action pass from his own endzone with one WR running a route, and Sanchez chucks an interception into quadruple coverage. D. Florence intercepted M. Sanchez for 7 yards Sanchez is back on the field after the bills TD with great field position due to the Stevie Johnson penalty and a botched kickoff: 5-13 - M. Sanchez passed to S. Greene to the right for 7 yard gain. Buffalo committed 15 yard penalty 6-14 incomplete 7-15 - M. Sanchez passed to P. Burress down the middle for 14 yard touchdown. N. Folk made PAT Sanchez is back on the field to try and score with 0:38 left. 8-16 - M. Sanchez passed to J. McKnight to the right for 7 yard gain 8-17 incomplete 8-18 incomplete 9-19 - M. Sanchez passed to D. Keller to the left for 18 yard gain Fun facts: No pass was completed over 10 yards until the Burress TD near halftime. EDIT: ESPN lists him as 8-20 in the first half, so I gave him an extra completion and one less attempt somewhere. The overall point is that he runs very hot and cold though, not just throughout a game, but even in one half.
