The biggest need, in my opinion, is WR. Plax is a nice red zone receiver but is never is open in the middle of the field. The Jet's need a size, speed guy. Sanchez gets killed by the media but no one is open. We all have seen the safety coverage by both safeties. For the role he needs to play Eric Smith is fine. However, he can't be asked to cover TE's mam to man. Quite frankly, Jim Leonard is your classic overachiever but when has he made a play. In my opinion, Leonard goes and Smith stays. Obviously, I feel safety is my #2 priority. #3 is RT. I thought Hunter, after the way he played last year would be fine. He has not been fine. I'm hoping Vlad can create some real competition at RT. #4 is OLB, at this point McIntyre is the starter. I think the Jet's are looking for more of a "set the edge" type player. I expect the Jet's to be very active this offsaeson.I have great faith in Rex and Mike T.
1 New OC 2 Stud Pass Rusher (preferably OLB) With this in place, a lot of the defensive issues can be solved. I actually like the D Lineman we have now and think they will develop We do need ILB depth & speed 3 R Tackle (obvious) 3. Tight End We need a big TE who can block and act a a last option for Sanchez. I know he's probably not liked on this board, but I was hoping Cumberland could fit the bill before he got hurt . BTW when Plax leaves, and we get a good TE, its time to look at Keller as a Dallas Clarke type WR/TE hybrid
I say offensive line is the biggest priority by far. Moore is too old and has lost something. Hunter is gone and Ducasse is not the solution as far as I can see. Who are some names that will be available for next season. I want a dominating, road grading offensive line!
WR is biggest need for you? Eric Smith is not a starter, the O-line is playing awful, Mangold is good as always but fucking D'Brick has even been playing shitty. The O-line is going to need a major makeover, we need that pass rusher bad as well. WR? really? Are you trolling?
This makes no sense. The Jets are invested in a QB and have enough of a core talent base to contend for a few years. You replace the OC and fix the OL before you determine that Sanchez can't win. IMO he has already proven he can win with a supporting cast. This year the supporting cast has regressed, not him. Blaming the QB is the simplistic answer, but ignores the other 44 players, almost all of whom have not had good seasons.
......... Anyway.. Our line is crucial for the scheme of this offense. It has to be a physical, smart group that will consistently open nice holes and protect our QB. We have not been getting a lot of that. Our line has got to be top priority. The reason we are struggling so much on offense is because of that line. Without our line playing well, nothing else matters at all. It has to be at the top of the list.
Smith needs to go as well but I agree wiht you. At least Smith can hit someone once in a while. Leonhard is a complete waste. 3 years later, Im sure someone else can call plays on defense
1) Offensive Tackle ( I still would like to see Ducasse with a full offseason I'm nt selling his stock yet though he looks dumb as bricks) 2) OLB ( depending on how things fall we needs a OLB badly ) 3) WR ( Plax shouldn't be paid for what he does ) 4) More Offensive lineman ( We will never be able to see Sanchez peak with out protection and play calling) Im all for Safety upgrades and Tightend but this years draft unless in the later rounds. There is not that much talent associated with a NFL caliber player in those positions from where we will draft stand point
A solid pass rusher will fill out a fairly solid defense up front. Same for a safety in the secondary...that's my 2 defensive picks I personally thought Cumberland was coming along very well and really like him long term for the Jets. Then we picked up Nelson as well, throw in Keller and I think we are going to be okay at that spot. As far as a new QB, at this time too much ivested in Mark to give up yet, so that's not going to happen. Yet, watch what happens when his present contract expires, if the Jets don't bite big and early Marks days my be numbered here. I find the McElroy kid very intruiging and he looked awful good in preseason, and there is something to be said about about leadership, when you win a National title. If nothing else, might give Mark a reason to start looking over his shoulder, and improve his play. So, I'm for a RT who will be able to start right away and fill that glaring hole. Maybe that monster we just plucked off the PS. That or an experienced FA we can plug in, I think Moore is just fine, problem is, he has to worry about two spots. Once the RT spot is correctly filled the O line sholuld be a huge plus for the Jets. I really like our WR's corps and think we have some young up and comers, we really need a Edwards type who can strech the field and give defenses something to worry about. I really would not mind if Edwards came back at the right price, he really seem to blossem with the Jets. He just needs to grow up and leave the hood behind...
Surprised that you label WR as the biggest need on this team but at least you do give reasons. Offensively: 1. RT - We can all agree Jets need help here. I'd make it first priority because of how bad this offense has looked when Sanchez isn't given time to throw. Also, at least with RT upgrade maybe Jets can more reliably run the ball. Even if they don't score more, at least be better at getting some first downs & killing clock & playing the field position game. 2. TE - I think Plax is leaving for the highest bidder, so Jets will need a red zone target. Also, Keller isn't a great blocker & ground/pound should have at least one TE that's a stud blocker imho. Good blocking TE will be one more reliable body when Jets go big to grind out those short 3rd downs also. Defensively: 1. Safety - upgrade one or both but something really needs to change. Tebow's last drive kind of highlighted the Jets safeties in a painful way. On Tebow's first pass, Leonard failing to get the safety wasn't so bad but at least bring the guy down close to the goal line. Smith's inability to hold the edge on Tebow's TD showed a lack of smarts and ability by not being able to come back & at least get him from behind or push him down/sideways. Coaching staff also deserved blame for making such a call & leaving somebody like Smith to handle such a crucial role. 2 - Pass Rusher but I'm not seeing the Jets able to find this player. Except for franchise qb, there is no player more desired across the NFL. Losing teams, playoff teams, SB teams hoard whatever pass rushers they can get their hands on. Which is why I'm hoping Jets can upgrade the Safety position to also have better coverage skills. Revis/Cro/Wilson + good safety coverage could give Jets D more chances at coverage sacks compared to rest of NFL.
They both should go, they both suck, also need someone to tell Sanchez to unload the ball, he takes toio long to make descisions and pumps 2-3 times before throwing the ball everytime...
This post is ironic Biggest needs are A legit number 2 receiver (maybe resign Braylon) Replace Wayne hunter A playmaker at safety A passrusher
The Jets shouldnt have let Edwards go and should have pushed more to get Damien Woody to come back. But I guess its easy to look back on things and say you would have done it differently. On top of that though our defense just isnt as good as it has been in years past. We have week safeties and Cro seems to either play really well or really bad. He was much more consistant last year. We need a FS and a pass rushing LB on our defense. We've needed a pass rusher for awhile now. Maybin seems to be a nice guy to have on passing downs but as we all know he is a situational player and Pace, Thomas, and Westerman have not been getting the job done in that category.
