This logic works over the course of the season, but for this game no one should be immune. Every member of the team should be scrutinizing themselves after this game.
End of the 1st half, allowing a td is inexcusable. 23-16, Jets back in the game needing a stop, Pats go 80 yards and score. Awful. Offense deserves blame, but the defense did allow 30 points.
(1) That's called clock management. That one is squarely on offense. (2) By then the defense was gassed. Recall how Steelers beat the Pats. (3) ST and offense turned the ball over in the red zone - it's a wonder that the defense held those short field for FG.
The team as a whole played like crap. The defense looked confused and tired, offense was anemic and turned the ball over twice, and ever heard of a fair catch joe?
There was no one near McKnight when he fumbled. Even if he called for a fair catch the ball is still live once he drops it.
No, but if he calls the fair catch then he's more likely to be looking the ball into his hands than looking up the field before securing the catch which was caused the fumble in the first place. Unless he's a total idiot in which case all bets are off. It's called not letting a team march 80 yards down the field for a TD. That's squarely on the defense. Gaffe #1 for that unit.
Yes the Defense has some blame but you give us even a remotely normal/average offense, I think we would have had this game. Our Offense is just absolutely pathetic.
I'm not going to kill McKnight for the fumble, it sucks but it happens, there's a reason he's not normally back there. Also the non recovery by Strickland was arguably even worse than the drop.
Agreed. I don't understand why everyone (including Rex) made such a big deal about the "timing" of the timeout - although I do agree Sanchez should have waited. The Pats scored with :09 left and an extra timeout to spare. Even if Sanchez had wasted abother :20 seconds the Pats would still have been able to score - IMHO. The TO didn't have that much of an effect.
The Strickland F up was worse then the McKnight fumble, how on Earth he didn't come up with it is mind boggling. I was yelling at the fucking TV for him to just kick it out of bounds. You get penalized but at least you keep the ball. To me it was 2 fold, leaving them the extra time and then following it up by kicking the ball out of the endzone after Wilfork committed the personal foul. Your kicking from the 50, the way the D was playing with them inside the 10 I don't understand why you wouldn't try to pin them inside the 10 again?
Yea, I'm not saying that Sanchez played that perfectly but the defense letting them march down the field was a embarrassing.
Bingo, I think every one of the Jets has to look at themselves after this debacle. It sucks that the Jets continue to come up short just when you think they've turned the corner (especially when it's against the Pats), but that's the way it is. There really wasn't wasn't a unit that played extremely well yesterday. Still don't know how a group of people like to pin this solely on the shoulders of Sanchez. Not that he played great, but to absolve the OL, special teams, DL , etc. seems shortsigted.
1. if Santonio doesn't fall down we have a perfect opening drive. 2. bad job BUT the D doesn't have to allow NE to go 80 yds in a minute- big time D's do not allow that to happen. 3. When I saw him back there I was worried, catching punts and KOs are so different. I wanted Leonhard to be back there again. 4. The O did quickly get it back to a 7 pt game but again the D failed. O, D, STs all were bad tonight but we are a defensive team first and when our D plays like that it's really hard to win.
Agree completely, yes its was a stupid mistake by Sanchez but our vaunted D needs to step up and stop Brady. If the Pats had less time they just would have run deeper routes to beat us, their Wr's ran free all night.
You give a QB like Brady enough chances and he'll burn you. Happened the first time, happened last night. There is no excuse for putting up so few points against a defense like that. When the Defense can't get off the field against an offense like that, you're going to have issues.
Basically this. The D performed well in the first half, but just ran out of gas because the pathetic O was constantly 3 and out. Sanchez calling a TO to give Brady the ball back with more time was specifically referenced by Rex as the dumbest move in the history of football.
