Series 1 - Final two minutes of the 1st half. We have the ball and pissed our pants. Sanchez called that stupid timeout and that set the following chain of events into motion that ultimately put us in a spot that we could not come back from. We score the TD leaving way too much time on the clock but the Pats bail us out because Wilfork commits the personal foul and we kick off from the 50. Well unlike most teams we kick the dam ball out of the freaking end zone taking absolutely no time off that clock and giving the Pats the ball at the twenty. There were so many things we could have done, kicking it out of the back of the endzone was the dumbest thing to do. Westhoff doesn't make too many errors so I'd be curious if that was his call. Of course then Brady and Douchekowski put on a clinic helped out by Eric Smith who quite possibly pisses me off more then any other player on the defense with his constant stupid penalties. Any momentum we had with the safety and the TD were lost. Series 2 - Our 1st possession of the 2nd half. We get the ball at the 45 and we go 3 and out almost our mantra except we didn't try one run in that series. We were having so much success running the ball and we didn't even try. Of course then Conley kicks it into the EZ for a touchback and McKnight fumbles the following punt. Obviously there were many other mistakes this team made but I think we would have been able to overcome them if we didn't screw up those two series.
I only post here when I'm drunk. Needless to say, I had a little too much tonight, and for good reason.
Disagree ... the most important series came after the muff. Defense did well to hold them to three ... 16-9. then McKnight makes up for his mistake by retuning the kickoff to the 40. A few plays later we have a first down on the Pats 37. at that point I'm thinking we're on our way to a 16-16 tie or at the very least, 16-12. instead the next play is the pick off of Greene's head and the next thing you know we're down 23-9. That was a killer.
The time out changed it. Reminds me of the Dolphins leading the Saints 24-3 and calling time out after the Saints got to the 3 with less then ten seconds until half. Instead of setting up for a FG they gave the Saints the time needed to set up a play and score. It was stupid on Sanchez's part and gave the Pats momentum at the end of the half.
My point was if we don't give up that TD and go into the half up 9-7 instead of down 13-9 it's a completely different game. Then we hold them to a 3 and out to start the 2nd half, we get the ball near mid field and go 3 and out. If and I understand if means nothing but if we somehow would have been able to create a drive there and score a TD we theoretically could have been up 16-6 at that point with momentum and a scoring drive in 2 consecutive possessions I like our chances at that point. As it turns out everything that could have gone wrong did and we payed because of it.
