Is Urlacher also a very average LBer....again, look at the list, and you will see JV is ABOVE average
I realize that, but the Jets LB corp has always played well as a unit, at least I think so. Didn't really matter who was there. But you are right, there are a lot of new faces, so who knows. I was just basing my comment on what I noticed in the past.
The analysis of the Jets LB'ers from the article: "Johnathan Vilma's gaudy tackle totals were inflated by the fact that the Jets defense was lousy, and he made his share of clean-up tackles after eight-yard runs. But Vilma led NFL linebackers in Rushing Stops, Rushing Defeats, and Total Stops last season, so he was clearly doing something right. Only Donnie Edwards made a higher percentage of his team's tackles. Vilma will only have a little more help this year: Brad Cassell is a high-motor defender with no cover skills, Victor Hobson is an adequate stack-and-shed player with limited speed, and Bryan Thomas is a converted end. Why do teams switch to the 3-4 defense when they lack three good linebackers, let alone four"? Answer.. Because they have a coach who led the Patriots to a worse defensive ranking than the Kansas City Chiefs... Mangini is a resume and a walking cliche who failed as a DC with the Patriots last year...
What a surprise raj088 with something negative to say. I was waiting for it. It seems lately that wherever champ69 posts, raj088 posts, and vice-versa. It is like the Odd Couple from hell. And yet the Pats made the playoffs last year (with a defensive run at the second half of the year I might add), and the Jets, with your Golden Boy Mr. Ed, at the helm, didn't? Interesting....
"Why do teams switch to the 3-4 defense when they lack three good linebackers, let alone four?" Because our D-Line is worse.
It's nonsense, they also had us 32nd in DL rankings. In 2004 Ellis was a top DE and Robertson a top DT, I know they struggled last year but the talent is there and to say there are 31 teams w/ better DL's is asinine.
CJ69, that argument is one I would expect from my 9-year-old nephew. If your son went to Wharton, I would expect his old man to be a little bit better with numbers and a little more lucid in his arguments.
The whole Champ thing is very fishy. He's always insulting peoples intelligence, then you read his posts.....nuff said. The other thing is he insults peoples football IQ. I saw him post a few times in a thread what a great middle linebacker Lawrence Taylor was. Now, come on! The guy revolutionized pro football from the outside linebacker position. If you lived in NY and followed football that's a mistake you just don't make. In fact, when you hear the words Outside Linebacker and you are over 40 and from NY you think of LT, whether you were a Jets fan, Giants fan..any fan.
Same old argument...when are you going to get new material...you've been saying this all off-season and seems to be your only argument. Pats run D was top ten, no mention of that?
Actually, I think it's obvious Champ's son received his intelligence from his mother. Just IMHO of course.
What joke...that rating is horrible. Just by the fact that the guy doesn;t mention Barton goes to show he doesn;t know enough about LBs to be ranking them.
Why run when the Pats defense, under Mangini, was ranked 31st. Same for the Jets who were ranked 2nd best in the NFL in pass defense.... why pass when the run defense is a sieve. Why run on the Pats when their secondary was worse than the Chiefs (ranked 30th).
Defensive run? The Patriot defense was embarrased on Nov 24th surrendering 26 points in a blowout by the Chiefs and Bellichek had to step in to run the defensive meetings. They did better defensively in their last five games...... four of which were against those offensive juggernauts, the New York Jets (2 games), the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins. Tom Brady got the pats to the playoffs... Chad Pennington didn't.
As usual, champ just takes one little thing for his defense. Here are the numbers for other MLB's that Cakes provided. This is just so everyone has access to the same info.
You're kidding me? THIS is his argument? Now he seems even more clueless than before. There are some really good LB's on that list that our "average" linebacker has better #'s than.
