Nice. Expecting big things out of rhodes this year, and all early signs point to him becoming a difference maker in our secondary.
^^ Still just a special teamer for now. Since Smith is getting more reps then maddox you can tell who they have more faith in.
He's just not that good. Serviceable, yes, but a bit athletically challenged to be a star at the position. IMO, FS is an area that can definitely be upgraded...
well he struggled last year and now he's hurt (ill) again...eric smith replaced him looks good out there so far and also made some bigplays
A friend of mine who is a personal trainer was telling me that Rhodes is his nextdoor neighbor and that he worked with him for about a month or month and a half before training camp. He had Rhodes doing sprints and all kinds of crazy workouts outside in the heat and Rhodes would say "football camp is nothing compared to this." My friend told me that Rhodes is in great shape and to expect big things and now it looks like he's showing that his effort in the offseason really helped.
Wow Eric Smith ...... I know Coleman isn't an athlete but if he loses his spot to eric smith then he really wasn't as good as his rookie number indicate.
Athlete or not , he was second on the team with 121 tackles. To put it into perspective Vilma had 169. Coleman finished 13th in the NFL . Not too shabby for a non athlete which means hes a football player.
might be time for me to put away my erik coleman jersey (yes i have an erik coleman # 26 jets jersey)... also, i haven't been on this site in a long time, i forget where the pictures are posted from camp. can someone help me out on where to find camp pictures. thanks.
Unfortunately, this says more about the competency of our defense last year than Coleman's prowess. Don't get me wrong, I think EC is starter material in a defensive backfield, but as I also said eariler it is a position that can definitely be upgraded. He doesn't have closing speed and his range in coverage is mediocre at best. He's okay, nothing great IMO.....
Yes, Eric Smith might start over Coleman...unless Coleman makes a miraculous comeback from his illness. On the other hand...having Coleman backing up Smith and Rhodes makes me happy. He's solid at either position and if an injury occurs to either guy Coleman can step right in and play.
