2 #1 picks(at least one would most likely be a top 10 pick, since we would have a scrub at QB for the rest of the year) and and a later round pick would be enough to get you the 1st overall pick
you can't tell me kyle orton wouldn't be a better QB to have with the Jets. if you study orton's 2009 season he was arguably a top 5 QB in the league. every nfl analyst gave him praise.
I've been a Jets fan all my life, and I can see past the blind support people want to give Sanchez. Sanchez did not LEAD us to back to back AFC championship games, Rex did. We could have gotten the same result with Kyle Orton playing quarterback, and deep down everyone knows it. the quarterback position has by and large been irrelevant for the success this team has had the past 2 years; in fact you could argue the team has been worse than it should be because of the quarterback position. I am a Jets fan first, not a Sanchez fan first. I am always going to support what I think is best for this team not stroke the ego of whoever happens to be our QB. I am getting sick and tired of seeing him miss receivers by a mile even when he has protection in his 3rd NFL season, and I am sick and tired of seeing him not have any command over the game when I have to watch Matt Stafford and Josh Freeman do exactly the things I wish he could do. Matt Stafford hasn't even played all that much for crying out loud with his first 2 seasons marred by injury. If Sanchez does not show significant improvement and we miss the playoffs because of it, it's time to at least open the debate that NO ONE seems to want to have (whether we can go all the way with Sanchez or do we need to look elsewhere). This team is currently too good to waste an opportunity on a championship because the QB can not deliver consistently.
Yeah, like Sanchez would put Cotchery in the slot without the halfback like that? I think Brees knows.
Trading Sanchez right now would be like the 1972 Steelers giving up on Terry Bradshaw when they were 2-2 and he'd thrown 5 picks in the first 4 games after throwing a ton of picks in the first two years. I'm not saying the 2011 Jets are going to be good like the 1972 Steelers were but the one thing the Rooneys knew, which is still true, is that young QB's take time to develop and they need a lot of support along the way. Ben Roethlisberger looked great his first year because the Steelers coddled the hell out of him. He crapped the bed in the playoffs (unlike Mark Sanchez) because the coddling stopped under the pressure of must-win-now. For the record, Big Ben averaged 22.5 throws a game for his first two seasons. Mark Sanchez averaged 28 throws a game over the same time period. The Steelers are a great franchise because they understand how competitive sports and football in particular work. The Jets are just an unholy mess over the years because they don't understand this stuff. If we got rid of Mark Sanchez it would take us a half a decade to get back to where we are right now. He's a young QB and he's not being supported very well at the moment. The answer to that is to support him appropriately and wait for him to emerge and become a great QB. Of course we could just keep trading draft picks for wide receivers and letting the offensive line go to hell and then he'll never get the chance. Does it make more sense to do things like the Steelers did with Bradshaw and Roethlisberger or to do things like the Jets did with Richard Todd and Chad Pennington?
I used to track how the Steelers groomed Ben compared to what the Jets did with Sanchez, and it made me angry of how the Jets still want to throw so much. They were both Juniors when they came out, and Sanchez had less starts in college than Ben. I wish the Jets followed what the Steelers did with him in his 1st 4 seasons. That's how you groom a QB in this league. You ignore the bullshit pressures and you follow the formula left by everyone who was successful before you.
Hate to sound like a troll but.... don't worry about it, nobody would offer 2 firsts for Sanchez. Oakland now has a better QB than the Jets. On another note, outstanding rack on your avitar.
damn you captured every thought I've had to the tee. I agree 100% all the way. jet fan first and not a sanchez fan. he's held this team back too much (Shotty also) I too am sick and tired of missing throws, throwing too high, too low, etc. I want that command in that your talking about. we won't do anything until we have a guy like that. In all honesty I feel completely jealous
Wow, I think I'd do it. Sanchez is solid, but there aren't many players in this league that require 2 1st's. Having 3 1st rounders in 2 years could completely rebuild our team. Imagine having first round talents at OLB, WR, and OT. Sanchez isn't good enough to turn that down IMO.
to be honest, if we could get 2 #1 picks AND be able to recycle a package to get Luck in the draft I'd do it. Sanchez has the ability to be an above average NFL quarterback, but after three seasons he's not really shown alot of improvement in his accuracy. Luck on the other hand has a rocket arm, good footwork and has a real chance at being an Elite QB. Of course there are risks, see Ryan Lief, etc. But If I could score Luck, who by many accounts is the best QB Talent wise to come into the draft in a long time I'd roll those dice. That said, I'd only make that deal if we had a deal in place to get Luck in the Draft.
Luck won't be a Ryan leaf, because he's not a party animal spoiled little girl. Leaf was mentally weak. Luck ain't close to that.
Not sure how I'd go about replacing him, but 2 1st's for Mark is a no-brainer in terms of value. 1) Vontaze Burfict ILB/BPA QB 1) Michael Floyd WR/BPA QB (or we could wait on a QB) 2) Vinny Curry OLB 3) Matt Reynolds OT Obviously any number of scenarios could play out, but having all those picks, as well as 2 firsts the next year would be an amazing opportunity to add some much needed youth/talent to multiple areas of the team.
Agreed, I've said before that Kyle Orton would be perfect on our team. Accurate passer who makes good decisions and can sling the ball. He WAS the broncos last year, with a solid running game and a defense that doesn't bleed points (like Denver did last year) I think Orton could lead a damn good team. I thought he would have been a good fit in Minny with AP.
