I would feel bad for whatever team takes him on. Very good offensive recruiter and he helps your QB really develop themselves in college but man his playcalling was awful at Notre Dame, developed no running game at all during his time and constantly his defenses were slow and lethargic. Weis would be huge for Sanchez but he doesn't believe in ground and pound and will constantly air it out. The running game will take a hit under Weis. New England had almost no running game during Weis time as the Patriot offensive coordinator. And sadly, not every team can have Tom Brady. Likewise, I think spygate taints Weis in some sense too during his time as the NE offensive coordinator. Weis is a great quarterbacks coach, not the best offensive caller. Brady and Matt Cassell in the NFL and Brady Quinn/Jimmy Clausen in college flourished thanks to Weis but the running backs outside of maybe Charles who had shown to be good with enough carries? Nah.
I know it won't happen, but it's nice to dream right now. Under Charlie Weis Bowe had the best year of his career by far. Over 1,100 yards receiving and 15 TDs. Cassel 27 Tds, and 7 INTs Cassel had his worst games last year when Weis was unhappy and was questioned about his commitment. Not saying Brady isn't great but he is in a great system, when Cassel stepped in in 08 he looked like he'd been starting in the NFL for years.
Bowe is on pace for 13 TDs(had 15 last year), 73 recs(he had 72 last year) and 1344 yds(he had 1162 last year).
Bowe's first game had 2 receptions for 17 yards and 0 TDs Second game 5 for 101 and 0 TDs After that caught 1 in each of the next 2 and 2 in this Sunday past. So we'll see.
Schottenheimer isn't getting replaced midseason unless we totally collapse. And Charlie Weiss is SO overrated
Dan Henning. If he can turn Ray Lucas into a success, and take Jake Delhomme to a Superbowl, Monday night miracle...who needs Weis, he has been stripped of duties twice by Parcells and by Beli in NE. Great at drawing up schemes, lousy at play calling.
This. I realize money talks, but I'd be beyond surprised if Weis would get in bed with the Jets given the current intensity of the rivalry. He'd be killing his ties to Belichick and Brady as well (the later he's described as "like a son to me"). He's also entrenched in a major college program (again) and if he bailed on that, he'd probably never get another head coaching job in the NCAA.
Charlie Weiss isn't going anywhere. The main reason he went to Florida was so that he could be near his son (who 'coincidentally' now has a GA position with the football team). It's not about the $$ to him right now.
From interviews, I think he's a lot happier in the college environment. Bailing on Florida now (especially when he's got such a nice gig down there) would pretty much eliminate him from another top college job in the future.
We actually have an OC that already knows the playbook, the players, seen what works and what doesn't, and has had great success for the last decade as an OC... Uncle Tom.
It's obvious you're making references to the MNF game against the Lions. Him having to run like that has nothing to do with play calling but has everything to do with one of the poorer O-lines in football going up against the best front 4 in football.
so Chi can use their OL as an excuse but for us it's about the OC even though our OL has been as bad as Chi's if not worse?
I get your point, but there's no way our line has been consistently worse than Chicago's line. C'mon junc.
Outr OL has been brutal in pass protection just has Chicago's but their run game has been successful. Foret has 82 carries for 440 yds, 5.4 YPC Greene/LT have rushed it 94 times for 312 yds, 3.3 YPC Their Ol is struggling pas protection, ours is struggling all around(though it looked MUCH better last week).
Good post. But is it just that Forte is a much better back than Greene/LT? I guess it's hard for me to completely buy into our line being shit (all around) because Mangold went down so early, and is now back (though not 100%). So in my mind (and you can call this homerish, I'll take it), the only games I can really judge our line on are the Dallas and Patriots games. In Dallas, Hunter was really the only glaring weakness (though we couldn't run the ball for shit I guess), and last week, as you point out, they did a descent job. But last week Mark wasn't under the pressure he had been in the previous weeks, and our receivers are still running under routes on 3rd down, so I put that more on the OC and less on the line.
Yes Forte is much better but a year ago LT/Green averaged 4.2 YPC, losing almost a full yard I think is on the OL. mark was still shellshocked from bal the week before, I notcied he started looking better as the game progressed. Our Ol is going to be good but it was brutal the first 4 games culminating w/ one of the worst performances I have ever seen in baltimore.
