Thus far, I think the quarterback situation is going well. Ramsey has been improving since mini-camp and Chad has been workin hard to improve his game. I read somewhere he put on 10 pounds of muscle as well. Clemens has been reported to be doing fine as well. Now I know theres so much more to look at like preaseason games and who knows how well the starting quarterback will play during the regular season, but the past week has given me some comfort in this area.
Yeah, the rise of our young talent like houston, washington, cotchery and rhodes really brings a smile to my face. Cotchery actually has the chance to play now that Herm is gone, it probably helped motivate him.
We definitely have a good amount of young talent on this team. There is no reason to believe that under the right coaching we will be as bad as people say. I really don't mind it at all though, it sets us up to surprise some teams this season.
Oh just because I like some of our young talent doesn't mean I'm looking forward to a superbowl run this year. There are really so many question marks up to this point its impossible to tell how we will match it up with anyone in the nfl. At best Herm has been stunting the growth of our team and Mangini will get the best out of the players and we can surprise many. Combined with the possibility that either the patriots or dolphins don't live up to expectations we may be able to get into the playoffs, but were not ready to make a serious run just right yet IMO. The more realistic approach is that our OC and HC need time to adapt and grow in there roles, as does many of our younger players. this will lead to a pretty slow start, but we should show flashes of an improving team. If things start off too badly we'll put in Clemens to get some snaps under his belt and basically see whom on this team is worth keeping long term. Having a rookie qb will not help us get many more wins thats for sure. I don't anticipate repeating the horrors of last season, but I'm prepared to take things in stride as this team grows up little by little. I guess since I'm getting older I'm beginning to temper my expectations for this team. I'm happy that for once we're doing things the right way and maybe this time we can become perennial contenders. Lets be honest, has there really been anything like this is the nfl before? New HC, GM, OC, and DC all in one year? Granted Sutton and Tanny were already with the team, but its a huge transition all the same. It's a gamble, sure, but for once it feels like we are looking to build a contender for the long term instead of sacrificing the future for a chance at making the playoffs as a wild card. And for the record, we have always done better when the analysts write us off as compared to when they support us. And maybe this year is no exception.
