I'm not going to say that Greene has been good, which he obviously hasn't been, but if we could just fix this offensive line and start getting some running lanes for our backs, I don't think we'd be so concerned with who's running the rock.
did any of you guys see greene break through a gang tackle and fight for more yards in yesterdays game... that was a hell of a lick they put on him and he put his head down and barreled through them... i mean what do u expect this guy to do... i admit the fumble was pretty bad, but hes not the first RB to ever drop the ball once in a while... bottom line is that if you dont open up a hole for this guy, or any RB for that matter, success is not likely... and you cant argue that the o-line is not doing that for him on a regular basis... there were a few times yesterday where they did and he showed that he can hit the hole n have a nice burst into the secondary.... the RB rotation is good the way it is.. if the o-line improves i think we will be ok
Yes LT is our best option, he is way more versatile than Green, and can run better than Green. Its the same OL that Green had trouble with, LT flourished in it.
The QB scramble finishing with a spine crunching head first dive yielded some positive yardage too. We should make that a bigger part of the game plan.
WHy stop what was working- Im a big fan of LT being the starter in the first half of the season, and then come late nov/dec. when he tires, along with the rest of the defenses in the nfl- shonn green slips in as the first back and punishes the opposition
I put down LT, knowing full well if he actually gets too many carries, he will get tired, both in games and over the course of the season.
That's exactly the way that I saw it as well. When Greene ran wide (especially on the early pitchouts) he did great. Why we stopped doing that and tried to go up the middle repeatedly made no sense IMHO.
Neither are good options with how shitty our run blocking is. Even Barry Sanders couldn't find a hole.
Going into the mix of the analysis here, let's not forget this play, third quarter, second and ten, Jets 21: (14:52) 23-S.Greene right end to NYJ 21 for no gain (93-T.Kelly). FUMBLES (93-T.Kelly), RECOVERED by OAK-77-M.Shaughnessy at NYJ 21. 77-M.Shaughnessy to NYJ 21 for no gain (23-S.Greene). PENALTY on OAK-99-L.Houston, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at NYJ 21 - No Play. Offsides is not the reason Greene put the ball on the ground. It was not an official play because Houston was offsides. But for that call, the Raiders would have had the ball on the Jet 21. I am sure the CS is mindful of this fumble by Greene, even if it was not official.
I like Greene a lot more when we have Conner in. In a single back formation he does too much dancing. He isn't that kind of player. I like to see him run through people not trying to run around them. He's gotta get back to how he was running his rookie year.
I think we need to have some different 1st and goal formations. I'd love to see Keller and Plax as WR with LT in the slot and Conner and Green in the backfield.
Greene hasn't been playing well, but I can't put the blame totally on him. The O-line has been sucking. Of course, I think that's pretty much common sense.
Our O line is a big part of the problem but you can't take any of the blame away from Greene. Lasean Mccoy has probably the worst O line in football and he is putting up serious numbers. Greene just can't make people miss so he relies on an O line to help him power the football up the gut.
