The biggest thing in this game was the mistakes: Jets made them, Raiders didn't.. and if they did, the Jets didn't capitalize. Kerley's punt return resulting in the INT Defensive flags extending drives for TDs Cromartie's botched return giving them the ball in the red zone Campbell played a smart, efficient game. McFadden played like Bo Jackson.. Jets run D nonexistant. Plus those 2 trick plays in a row were the nail in the coffin. They were pretty well defended but the play broke down and resulted in a big gain then a touchdown.
There possibly will be a rematch. I can see the Jets playing these guys again this year. And I hope they do. Revenge games are sweet. The Jets let this one get away. The Raiders basically pulled what the New England Patriots did to the Colts in the 2003 AFC Championship game. They had their hands on every receiver. Jamming, grabbing, pulling helmets off, hitting defenseless players without equipment and basically hanging on to receivers that had them beat. Like in basketball there are 'good fouls'. And for the Raiders, this rang true. You know this was coached up. The JETS stayed classy for the most part. I hope the Jets learned a lesson from this. Even with all that the Jets were right there knocking at the door. Even with their own mistakes. You can tell Cro was wanting to make up for the penalties on the return. Half of those penalties were horseshit calls. But you never let the refs beat you. Offense on 4th down you gotta get the yards. That offensive line needs fixing. Baxter is trying his little heart out but he gets blown up and gets all bent backwards. Tanny needs to draft depth at the o-line positions. Protect the running game & the Sanchise! But for now can someone teach Mark to throw to Plax?! You figure that would be easy. And to lead receivers so they can use their hands?! I stopped counting after like five balls. Put the ball out in front! Throw high to Plax! Let guys run under it. He has a nasty habit of under throwing deep and throwing behind on crossing routes. If he fixes that we are looking at longer sustaining drives. Besides that he did okay. The Jets are still a good football team on the verge of being elite. The Raiders are much improved. So are the Bills (referencing for the future). I think this was a good warm up for Baltimore. This team will not fold.
2 of the calls on Cro were bullshit. The roughing call on Wilkerson was bullshit. There should have been 2 holding calls on the 70 yard DMC TD. There should have been a 15 yard penalty when Mark had his head removed. Granted, the D played poorly, but the refs were the worst unit on the field yesterday.
THE NFL does not want to see great defenses hold offenses to minimal points. Yesterday was a great example of that. 2 flags on Cromartie were HORRIBLE. The roughing the passer call on Wilk had me chuckle and then want to vomit. I mean, its to the point that, you cannot breathe around a QB without getting a flag. Its sad because that is what the JETS are, smash mouth defense.
For all the yards we gained offensively, we should have had more than 24 points on the board. So for those who are saying that the loss is solely on the defense, I can't disagree more. The TEAM, all aspects of the team, didn't play up to where they needed to. We can't keep leaving points on the board, we can't keep giving up huge yardage on defense without getting turnovers, and Cromartie can't sit there and return balls that he has no chance on getting to the 20 and he should have that fact driven into his skull until it stays there. We have Baltimore this week and that game is going to be a doozy, we have to play well on both sides of the ball. Their offense is better than Oakland and so is their defense. We can't allow them to bully us like how we got bullied this week, and Schottenheimer needs to come up with a gameplan that actually gets us into the endzone, not a gameplan that gives us 400 plus yards but ONLY 24 pts. We leave too many points on the field and quite frankly the way our defense has been playing this year, we can't afford to let that happen anymore.
