Chris Mortenson's Insider Chat on ESPN.com On Chad Pennington Chris (New Jersey): Will the Jets and Pennington come to an agreement? If not, what is Chad's future in free agency? Chris Mortensen: He won't get a starting job, at least I don't think. I'm sure the Chiefs would like to sign him as a backup but Chad won't have a big market out there - I don't think anyway On Jay Cutler Evan (New Freedom, PA): I disagree that Cutler is as talented as everybody is thinking. He has average stats, minus the passing yards, and he did it all against a weak schedule. Vandy went 5-6, but since Cutler had a load of TD's in the last 3 games, he's supposed to be talented? Chris Mortensen: I saw him play...when you pay attention and watch him play, you will understand how good he is http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=10955
I `d love to see the JETS pick up a cutler (a big strong guy with a arm something thats been missing around here for a while)...I`m suprised we haven`t heard the final result yet of CHAD since they need to CUT him before the 3rd to not get hit with that $3,000,000 roster bonus.
more baseless comparisons. Everyone from scouts/experts/analysts to SEC coaches themselves have said that Cutler is the real deal. Jeff Fischer evidently likes him too, being he coached him at the Senior Bowl. All of these people know much more than we do about talent and playing. I'm trusting them that Cutler is for real, despite past incidents where players were highly regarded (i.e. Ryan Leaf). Should Cutler be a #4 pick? Maybe, maybe not? But the general concensus seems to be that he's got the tools to flourish in the NFL. cheers
I don't want Cutler. I don't want Brick. I don't wan't Leinart. Having said that I don't care who we get. We need help in almost every position and let's face it, most of who we sign might be an upgrade and if not then at least a minor drop-off with, hopefully, a much more cap friendly contract. This upcoming year may not lead us to THE GAME but maybe it will point us in the right direction.
Well if you put in the pathetic out of conference schedule it is very possible, 4 of their 5 wins this year was against that out of conference schedule, and the 5th win was against a very down Tennessee team, and they lost to Middle Tenn St at home. All of their tough games they lost
Mort fails to point out that the Chiefs salary cap situation is worse than the Jets right now. I doubt KC will cut players and clear room to sign an oft injured backup QB, no matter the love between Chad & Herm.
What sold me on Cutler was wen I was told to imagine him in USC offense and imagine Leinart in Vandys O I think if Jay played with the likes of Bush, White, Jarret, Byrd, and had an O line with Justice,Lutui, and Matua he would have won more then 5 games this year.
If the Jets cut Penny,he is not getting more than the Jets have offered The minimum in KC might be the only offer for Chad
How can you assess a QB and your argument is "Minus The Passing Yards"? And, a Bunch of TD's in 3 games? Cutler isn't the Cream but he looks Legit enough to be called talented, but so did a Ton of other QB's comin out of college
