right now you would have to say revis and mangold only need to keep up this level of play a few more years before they are all timers. Unfortunately thats not saying alot since were a bit thin in legendary players.
Soon as we win it all Rex goes straight to #1 without question. And Revis eclipses Namath for #2 along with it
I want Revis to be remembered as one of those guys that were the leaders of their defense, like Ray Lewis, Lawrence Taylor, Polamalu, but of course he will need to delived a Super Bowl if he wants to be mentioned with them.
hard for a CB to garner the "best" status for a franchise. usually reserved for the glamor spots like QB, RB, LB/DE.... jets have to win it for him to be in the mix.
Mangold is better than Revis. Anyone who can get Shonn Greene positive yards is a genius especially with that bufoon Schottenheimer calling the plays.
People never remember the stats when they look back and discuss "greatest", they remember the lore. By that same logic Revis could never be considered the greatest Jet of all time because he will never have the stats. By int's he will (and does now) look totally average. What you can't see on the stat sheet is the fear of God that he puts into QB's.
Great Revis Article by Manish Three days after the Jets' season-opening win against the Cowboys in which Revis had a game-altering interception, the best cornerback in the NFL dissected his newest challenge: Off coverage. ............................................................. "Is he better than Deion?" Irvin said. "There were times I was on the field and Deion was on the field and we were not going up against each other. Sometimes he got on the lesser man and they doubled the greater man. It kind of gave Deion a break. I've watched Darrelle Revis. A Michael Irvin would not be on the football field without Darrelle Revis covering him. … Darrelle Revis is the best. Don't fool yourself."
looking at it objectively, Revis will most likely go down as the greatest player in Jets history. Taking into account how important Namath is to the franchise, just looking at skills alone, Revis will probably be #1 without question with Martin as #2. Although if we win a SB, Rex will be the most celebrated figure in the franchise without question.
Good point. Years from now, younger fans who never saw him play will focus on his stats and discard Revis as an overrated relic from a bygone era as many younger fans today are inclined to do with J-Willy.
