I just got back from the morning practice and damn it was hot and humid again..... yikes! Took over 300 pics and am going to post them later today. MisterMoss was sitting right next to me. He will have a report sometime later today.
Nice job looking forward to the pics.Any info on next weeks Meadowlands practice schedule, will the fans be able to interact with the players like at Hofstra?
Chad looked decent. Clemens on the other hand did not look impressive at all..... Bollinger looked like he was the odd man out. He will be gone...
MisterMoss' Training Camp Report Sunday 7/30 Morning Hello again. Note that I left camp at around 10:50, so I missed the last half an hour. So whatever happened during that time, I am not aware of. Updating some stuff from my last report. The Jets continue to have one lousy water station which they do not refill to fulfill the thirst of 1,500 Jets fans. That's awesome on a 95 degree day which feels like 105 for the people like me sitting on metal bleacher seats. I caught up with Petrozza today. I guess he was in the shade earlier on, but he spotted me in the crowd and we were discussing who we would ban next...well, ummm...whatever. Watch out KOZ. Also updating something I said in the other thread about not seeing a shotgun formation. I did see that being run today, so that makes it an incredible 2 consecutive years of shotgun. Let's get started with the QBs: Chad Pennington had a better day than he did friday. It was encouraging. He did have a little better zip on his passes than he did when I went on Friday, but he did still underthrow a couple of them. Not a big deal i guess. I saw him throw into double coverage a little more than I would like to have seen. I think I may have figured out his problems though. His right arm appears to be longer than his left arm. I'm speculating it has something to do with 2 shoulder surgeries. I checked a couple of times, and I'm pretty sure of this. Thunderbird, double check that for me please. It's a breakthrough revelation :breakdance: Kellen Clemens was impressive once again. As I noticed last time, he does have a knack to squeeze passes through...threading the needle, so to speak. He did throw one INT though, the only one I saw today. It was an awesome play by Kerry Rhodes, who I believe made a pick at the Friday practice as well. So far so good for both players. Brooks Bollinger appears to be the odd man out. During 11 on 11s, the Jets skipped over his series of repetitions and went back to the top with Clemens. I guess it makes sense with Chad's contract, Clemens' arrival, and the Ramsey experiment, that Brooks will be the odd man out. Some other rather important happenings: Justin McCairens looked dreadful today, but I think that is to be expected, at least I hope. He was very off-balance and slow during the stepping drills in the first 20 minutes of practice. He barely beat Shawn Ellis during the hitting drills, and doesn't have that extra gear I was talking about on Friday just yet to catch the passes a little in front of him. Jerricho Cotchery is the man. He continues to impress as he apparently did the entire offseason. Excellent use of the hands today. I really think this kid has the goods to be a top receiver in his 3rd or 4th year in the league. Tim Dwight-I really do like him. He's definitely going to be our kick returner, and has shown his ability to play in the passing game. He was involved in good looking screen play during the half-speed 11 on 11s where he would go toward the QB at the snap and go behing the offensive line who are rolling ahead. I'm sure that's a play that will be used this year. I also saw it being run by our 73rd string Wide receiver Reggie Newhouse. Leon Washington very nice player today. He blew by tacklers in the tackling drills early on during practice, and also showed good speed when surrounded by defenders to get through. Sticking with the RBs, Cedric Houston was impressive once again. He does look quicker this year, and hopefully able enough to carry a significant role on a team without question marks at this position. Washington is a legit 3rd down back in passing situations. He's dangerous in the open field. Some overall impressions: I've seen good linebacker pursuit so far on plays on the sidelines. I remember Barton running down Washington on one occation, and it happened repeatedly. Bryan Thomas was doing well. You may see in one of the pictures that Petrozza puts up, he was being held coming around the edge. Also another general comment, The CBs are OK so far. Dyson and Barrett have both looked good so far, as well has Derrick Strait, who had a very cool pass breakup. That has been a common theme so far, there have been some batted balls by the D-backs. Justin Miller hasn't stood out yet in camp. Mike Nugent was kicking off during special teams today. Not the deep kicks we were all dreaming about though. His directional kicks are fine, but I saw too many kicks getting caught at the 10 yard line. Also, we have nothing to worry about with Ben Graham. His punts were booming. Back to return his punts were Dwight, Cotchery, McCairens, and Leon Washington. So I assume that one of those four will be the returner; Dwight is the favorite. For some reason, I saw Laveranues Coles returning a couple of kickoffs. Let's pray that's not normal. Speaking of Coles, he had a very good day in the passing game. To finish off, standing out during the tackling drills were: Jamie Thompson, Will Thompson, Brad Kassell, Matt Chatham and Dyson. One of the low moments of that drill was seeing Dwayne Robertson land on his fanny while attempting a tackle.
Great report. Thanks guys. Very good to hear the positives coming out of both cotchery and houston. We may already have our future players and not even know it.
he intercepted them three times already (once a day). kerry's a beast thanks for your recap! keep em coming!
Beautiful, Mistermoss does the TE's seem to standing out to be favored. I was hoping Dreesen was going to have a real good camp and how about schlegel has he looked slow like the draft expert's were saying his persuit was?
Nice job now cool off and have a cold brew. Cotchery and Houston i like it 2 guys stepping up to the plate.
Nice report, thanks. i read somewhere that Maddox wore a giant knee brace and did not look good. Did you see any of him?
The TE's have had a very good camp so far. All of them. I don't remember seeing a drop pass yet in my two days. They got a lot more work on Friday against the quicker safeties, and really took advantage of their size. I haven't seen Schlegel yet, but probably because his number doesn't jump out to me yet. It really is a mess down there. There was a portion where the two lines were just fighting it out, and man was it intense. Everyone was cancelling each other out, so it's hard to focus on one player. Sometimes you just have to see who jumps out at you on defense.
He may very well be wearing a knee brace. I don't recall seeing him on the field, buy I may be mistaken. There were a couple of players out working out on the side, but I didn't recognize them. I saw Maddox on Friday, and he didn't look too good, and he got burned deep by Coles (on an overthrow by Ramsey)
If you are talking about a waste of money and cap space you have to mention Robertson. Let me say to some of you, I Told You So! He won't be a Jet next year. He was a waste of three draft picks and a truck load of money.
