i was at the track so i had no audio but how the hell was that overturned when he never stepped out? ive seen plenty of ppl leep like that to score a td
the ball never broke the plane, he put the ball out of bounds at the like 1 to avoid a mccown dive. correct call.
It was a very weird play. You rarely see a player enter the goal line at that angle with the ball in the wrong hand. It took the replay to see that you are dead on IATA.
Okay i am confused, because he didn't initally break the plane, the ball was to the left of the pylon, but before he STEPPED on the ground (out of bounds) the ball broke the plane of the endzone from the side. Can you only break the plane of the endzone from the front?
Ball was extended out of bounds at the 1/2 yard line, acc to official. The end zones only extend up within the pylons
Before '07, the rule was that the goal line stretched beyond the pylons, so that would've been a TD. They changed it before the '07 season: - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/10093957/2
Thx for that. I couldn't remember when they changed that rule @ the stadium and was trying to explain that the rul was changed but couldn't remember when...
Pretty much is what the answer should be. But its situational. Remember the Randy Moss catch on Ty Law that put the game in to OT after Jets took like a 3 possession lead? Moss caught the ball falling outside the sidelines. The ball was never possessed by any player inside the field of play, except Randy Moss had his feet inside. Whats weird is how does that become a TD and not this one? The ball can be anywhere, as long the runner doesn't 'STEP' out. That was my understanding. Also, Im pretty sure I've heard the announcers say a million times that the Goal line is an infinite line that theoretically never ends. Maybe I mixed this up with something? Anyways, Cromartie missed out on a TD there and it sure didn't make him happy about it. He was happy about the int, but he was probably burning inside about the missed TD. Corners don't get many opportunities to score. Glad he had a great game. Lets hope he can keep it up against elite WRs/QBs.
Shoot...there it is and thats the explanation. Didn't Cromartie land inside the EZ anyways before going out of bounds? If so, this wouldn't be much different that the Randy Moss catch I was referring to in my post above. Those catches happen every week.
I believe that was the case, before the rule change. See: Curtis Martin's TD dive vs the Bengals in '04.
I think they ruled that he hit the ground out of bounds before the ball ever crossed into the endzone.
his foot did touch the ground out of bounds before the football touched the ground in bounds, if the ball had touched the ground 1st it would have been a TD.
