What a joke, what is wrong with these people?

"Three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Chris McAliste has only been out of the game for a year, and already, he's telling the court system that he's broke.

McAlister is locked up in a child support battle with his ex-wife Marlene, and is trying to get his child support payments lowered. He currently owes her $11,000 per month. In documents filed to the court, claims he can't pay her because he doesn't have any money.

    From TMZ:
In the docs, Chris -- a 1st round NFL draft pick in 1999 who played in the league for 10 years -- states, "I have been unemployed since 2009. I have no income."
He adds, "I live in my parent's home. My parents provide me with my basic living expenses as I do not have the funds to do so."
This is a guy who's only been out of the game for one year. Who's giving him financial advice, Ric Flair? McAlister's not even officially retired. He spent 10 years with the Ravens, and was once considered one of the best corners in the game. He was with the Saints, in 2009, but didn't see a lot of playing time before being released.
In 2004, he signed a seven-year, $55 million contract. Now, some of that was money that he never saw, and he was released after five years of the contract, so it wouldn't be accurate to say he completely squandered $55 million.

But he did squander plenty. The signing bonus was reportedly $10 million, and it also included a $7.5 million roster bonus for 2005. The year before he signed the contract, he made almost $6 million. The last two years of the $55 million contract, which McAlister didn't see, were worth $8 million each.
As the Baltimore Sun points out, it wouldn't be surprising if McAlister was "broke as a joke" given his hardcore partying habits.
If the name Marlene McAlister sounds familiar, it's because her and Chris' marital issues found their way to TMZ once before. In April of last year, Marlene claimed that Chris kicked her out of his home when she refused to have an abortion.

Roger Goodell can probably go ahead and cross McAlister's name off of his list of guys to invite to speak at the rookie symposium."

If I've added these numbers up right, he made about $45 million from 2003 to 2009, and he's broke now? How is that even possible?

He is either the biggest moron in the world, or he's actually very smart and has hidden millions of dollars so he doesn't have to pay child support, which makes him a sleazebag. Either way, nice job!

    HAHA-

People like him and Brunell, who go through millions have dollars not planning for their future.

If I were an owner I would just open a car dealer/jewelry store/liquor store next to my practice facility. I could probably recoup 80% of my player salary expenses.

If you offered mccalister 50k he wouldn't have a choice but to swallow his pride and come back and tell his story of how big an idiot he is.

aside from the fact that most athletes are just retarded when it comes to money and personal extravagance, a lot of people from the hood have family and friends that come out of the woodworks asking for handouts.

Call it the mike tyson syndrome where some of these guys are too generous for their own good.

i'm not sure chris mac is considered as part of that though. i think he's just a wastrel idiot

At least he got to nail Stacy Keibler before he went broke...

Seriously 45 million... maybe he owned shares of Enron, Borders and Blockbuster Video? Ok maybe not but let's think about this for a minute. He made 45 million playing in the NFL but after he pays taxes, his agent, personal trainers, and whatever else the average athlete is going to have to pay he probably had roughly 20 million that was actually his.

Even with 20 million there is no excuse to be broke 1 year out of the league. That's insanity. I'd have my 2 Aston Martins, 5 bedroom home in St John's USVI, another home on the Costa Del Sol bought and paid with cash. Of course my home in Baltimore during the season and my home in a tax fee state like Texas or Nevada during the offseason.

If I had $20M, the only things I can guarantee that I'd have to show for it after a year are a raging coke habit and an impressive collection of STDs.

this is where u have to put some of the blame on the agents/lawyers that handled this guy during the playing days. i know nothing about player-agent relationships but there has to be some responsibility here where the representatives should be legally required to set up some sort of retirement fund, annuity, whole life insurance, etc for these guys.

heck if these guys start sinking some dough into a non-term li policy when they sign their first contract. after 10 years they have a decent cash value they can use.

    unreal.
