    Jets | Ramsey improving
    Fri, 28 Jul 2006 14:54:53 -0700

During his press conference, New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini noted how QB Patrick Ramsey has improved. Mangini said, "I think Patrick has made great improvement. He's gotten his weight down. He's really working on his footwork. He's like the rest of that group, - impressive in the classroom. He's made a lot of progress and I'm pleased with what he's done so far."

If Pennington keeps it up I wouldn't be suprised to see Ramsey in Week 1

Great point and I think this is what Mangini means by this statement

  5. I have a hunch that Clemmens will be the weak one starter.

I should hope he is not the "weak" one starter. We have high hopes for him

That little snipet doesn't really mean anything at all. Of course Ramsey is improving as he's learning the system. Sounds plain and expected.

You can't play a rookie when this offense is still coming together. Even if it is Ramsay, I'd rather have someone there who isn't as likely to panic. I think Clemens will take over by Week 8 if Pennington doesn't recover enough.

Clemens best move is to stay on the bench for at the very least 1/2 the season. He still needs to learn the transition and get more fermiliar with the play and speed of the NFL.

I'm honestly expecting 3 different starters this season. Either Pennington or Ramsey will start. About half way through the season that one will get yanked and replaced with the other one. Finally, when we're completely out of the playoff hunt, Clemens will start the last few games of the season. I, and I think Tangini, view this season as Pennington & Ramsey's audition for next year's backup role.

And by his early reviews here, he had nowhere to go but up...

No way Clemens starts. They will give Chad a chance and if he can't then put in Ramsey. Look for Clemens at the end of the season.

I think Ramsey will be the designated tackling dummy until the line shows some cohesion.

Hoy falloy, "weak one"? Of course that's a typo, but Holy Cr*p, I need a sweater to cover my goosebumps even in this weather.

EDIT: Asleep on my own watch! AGAIN! Damn it.

I would LOVE to see this. He is a total class act and, if he can get the mental part of the game down and relax a bit, he has the tools to be a great starter.

And that is exactly why he will probably start in week 1. Knowing that he can stretch the field shows that the defense will HAVE to respect the passing game. Chad will be 3rd string (continue to rehab), and Kellen will come in if there are any blowouts as the 2nd string qb. It would make sense that way. Kellen would gain nothing by watching Chad or Ramsey play during Garbage time. Ramsey is the wildcard. If he plays well, then we can do well. If he plays poorly, then Chad will be the starter and Kellen will come in for any games out of reach. No point in having a "loser's mentality" before the season starts.

Which will do you absolutely no good if you have a QB who is not smart enough, or has happy feet, or whatever his issue is. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt he'll improve and catch on, but we'll know more by the end of the preseason.
