Why was Keyshawn such a prick to Chrebet?

I've just been reading some of the quotes by Keyshawn Johnson about Wayne...things he said while they were on the same team, and it makes me hate the guy. I always knew he was a bit of a jerkoff but this stuff makes me hope the rest of his career sucks. A guy like Chrebet works as hard as he can to be his best and all Keyshawn could apparently do was knock him down....his own teammate. In my opinion alot of the stuff he said is far worse than the things T.O. said about Donovan.

Professional jealousy, plain and simple. Chrebet always took the high road, which is no surprise.

Why was Keyshawn such a prick, he was always a piece of shit and he didnt like seeing Chrebet getting passes thrown his way. Keyshawn just didnt like the fact that Chrebet had little potential but worked extremely hard, whereas Keyshawn had tons of potential but he was lazy.

I'd say the title to his "autobiography" (written after exactly one season in the NFL) pretty much says it all - throwing to Chrebet meant less face time for Meshawn.

"O'Donnell was like a stiff puppet in the pocket." HAH, as much as that Big Mouth annoyed/annoys me, that line always made me laugh in spite of myself. Yes, I'm ashamed of it, but I openly admit it, so shoot me. He could take a hit, I will give him that.

The "sad" thing about Meshawn was that he never got it. He never got it that being on the biggest sports stage in the world - yo, New York, yo - was the primo arena to cater to his ego. What a dumb ass, a malcontent, a cancer. He could have done much more on ANY team he played on. Good for Gruden that he fired his ass. I had a good belly laugh over that; but I never did understand the lovefest, the way Parcells made allowances for him he wouldn't tolerate from anyone else. I'm too tired to formulate my thoughts properly. My apologies.

woops took me a little while to catch that one

But as far as I'm concerned Keyshan can go ahead and do that....he'll have to if he wants Jake to throw the ball away from Smith this season...

I think it was obvious it was a racial thing. Key was the big star athlete at the glamour University while Chrebet was the slow, little white kid from some 3rd rate school.

It was jealosy, pure and simple. Keyshawn was the number one pick and wanted to be the darling of Jet fans. He couldn't stand that a little free agent who gave it his all became the fan favorite. That's it in a nutshell.

'Cancer' is a pushing it a little. Yes, his big mouth eventually got him thrown off the Bucs, but he did catch 100 balls for the Bus his first year, then 90 something for the Super Bowl Champion. Also, every team he has been on got way better while he was there.

I'll agree he is immature and a jerk, but he did a lot between the lines for every team he was on. Watch out this year too because he is on a dynamite team......on paper of course.

I think it pretty much turned out to be the trade of the decade, getting 2 first round picks for this underacheiver.

Because Chrebet was faster than him? He hated having a non-drafted free agent who actually could play near his level and was also clearly better in one department.

Oh, and Keyshawn's ego is both colossal and tremendously fragile, a rare and flighty combination.

There was definitely jealousy involved and some resentment, as the fans and the media loved Chrebet and were less kind to Keyshawn.

I disagree though with the slam on Keyshawn as "lazy". My opionion, but I always saw him working hard.

And whether you hate him or not, I have never seen any receiver go across the middle - setting himself up to be killed - and get the ball, like Keyshawn.

I was just thinking the same thing; I'm surprised to see people call him lazy and an underachiever. He was definitely self-centered, and he was sometimes more worried about himself than the team, but IMO he was anything but lazy. He got jacked up many times across the middle and never gave up the ball. It's interesting, but as far as players, Keyshawn and Wayne have a very similar trait, both were/are fearless....

Maybe third rate when it comes to the Athletics program, but let's give some props where it is deserved! Hofstra is an excellent academic environment, with a decent athletics program that actually requires the athletes to attend classes and do the work. If that is 3rd rate than I guess I'll have to rethink my expectations.

I wouldn't call Keyshawn lazy and he was always known to be a good downfield blocker on underneath passes to other players and running plays. This is something most egomaniac receivers will never do. He was an attention whore though, and this is why he hated Chrebet, who got so much press and fan attention.

I don't think race had anything to do with it. If it was Diedrick Ward performing at a high level and putting up the stats and getting the accolades that Chrebet did Keyshawn would have done the same thing.

Keyshawn was just jealous that Wayne was the obvious fan favorite. Keyshawn constantly referred to Chrebet as "the mascot" because of his popularity with the fans, and it was clear Keyshawn was just jealous, and felt that since he was the better player (in his mind only) that he should be the fan favorite.
