Eli's going to have a tough time of it this year. He's already lost two of his favorite targets this offseason in Steve Smith and Kevin Boss. The only two receivers really worth their salt on the Giants right now are Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.
This has been all over sports talk today. I think it's kind of a loaded question, honestly. The dude came out and asked him if he thought he was an elite qb by the likes of Brady. It's not like Eli came out of the blue and said he was. So basically if you have that question posed to you, if you backpedal and say no, you end up looking like a pussy. If you say yes, you're egotistical. Honestly I don't have any problem with Eli saying he's an elite QB. If he doesn't believe it, who on the team is gonna? You gotta believe in yourself first in order for other people to believe in you too.
Like others have said, I think he is a really good QB but not quite at Brady/Manning/Brees/Rodgers level. However, that mentality is what you want. He has the make of a franchise QB.
I was ery curious to see all of you guys thoughts on this and I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. To break it down, hes not top 5 in Bradys class, but hes pretty darn good and you can win with him(1 losing season in 7 in 04). He did have a lot of tipped passes and bad luck ints, but he also led an offense in 2008 that only turned the ball over 13 times(10 ints 3 fumbles) and tied an NFL record that year so I suspect the real ELI between 08 and 10 is somewhere in the middle. Hes very good, not Brady, not his brother, not Brees or Rodgers either. One thing to consider like both teams in the town, the city he plays in late in the year is a tough place to put up gaudy numbers, say like a dome team or warm weather team like Rivers.
only 13 TOs in 2008(only 10 INts) but in the playoff game at HOME(he is 0-2 at home in postseason) he threw 2 INTs, in 7 playoff games he only has 8 TDs and he has 7 INTs.
Listening to the Boston sports media harrumphing about how it was unbelievable that Eli could dare to even compare himself to the great Brady was hi-larious. They went so far as to claim that if Brady ever so much as threw 19 interceptions in a year that he would refuse to throw another one, perhaps even taking himself out of the rest of the season's games so as to not hurt his team any further. I should avoid the clam chowder as it clearly causes brain damage.
boston radio must have nothing to talk about..just like new york radio yesterday. who cares what manning said. michael kay asked eli the question.he said he thinks of himself in the same tier or whatever as brady. it wasnt like eli came out, and said "im as good as brady." he said thinks of himself at a top 5 QB(which he isnt more around 8-12) but thats fine. he should think of himself as a good QB. eli is a clown, but da hell do you want him to say there?
I think that Eli is one of the more underrated QBs in football, nobody ever gives him credit for anything. He's not a top tier quarterback (IMO Brady, Manning, Rodgers and Brees are a cut above) but I definitely think he's in the top 10. That's nothing to sneeze at.
Which of the chowderheads I was listening to yesterday were you? Clearly Eli isn't as good as Brady but be real, asserting that Brady would sit himself for the season before he threw 20 picks was over the top.
People would have shit on him if he said he wasn't as good just like they're shitting on him him for saying he is in that tier. Either way it was a loaded question and one that Michael Kay was a douche for asking.
Did you really just use "he threw too hard" as an excuse. If Holmes dropped a pass from Sanchez and his reason was "well coach, he throws too hard" Rex Ryan would shoot him on the sidelines and string up his corpse as a message to the other WRs on the team. Usually it does even out with WRs bailing you out of trouble at times and getting you into trouble at others. Last year this did not happen for Eli.
Neither is Peyton but I'm sure you know that. (and I don't mean Archie either)...the best was the brother that got hurt, Cooper. He played receiver in high school but the whole family insists he would have been the best QB of the 4.
I saw on multiple occassions where he was about 5-10 yds from a WR and threw a bullet so yes throwing too hard can be an issue. It's great Eli and the Giant fans have all the excuses for him but many of those tipped INts were just as much his fault as the receivers.
