Nova I also think got a rather long leash. He finally gets pulled. 8-7

    re: Brunell

I think you have to manage to win. This isn't spring training. Contention or not, I would think Yost would be trying to win the game.

Great to see Jeter hitting well again. D Robertson = cash money.

Glad the Yankees took over first again.

Hopefully the Yankees can finish this series out and get fat on Minnesota.

Wasn't Yost already booted long before that? I think it was only like the 4th when he got ejected. It was a ridiculously long game. That was a Yankees/Sox type of game.

I'm really hoping Nova's performance last night doesn't give the organization an excuse to not move AJ or Hughes. Nova has been the best (most consistent) pitcher on the staff not named Sabathia this year. I actually agree with Bob Lorenz, Nova should be the #2 guy in the playoffs now.

He was ejected arguing a ball which he thought was a strike. He should've pulled Duffy then. Instead, he left him in there and apparently came out just to yell at the ump.

Gibbons took over and left Duffy in.

He definitely hasn't been as dominant as he was in the first half. Probably chalk it up to a 38 year old pitcher wearing down during the grind.

seemed to me the ump enjoyed that last strike call ...

no problem, they won the series, now take 3 out of 4 in minnesota and they will have done the job again. keep winning each series and they'll be fine.

It was a bad call, and worse form by the crew to not meet with the media after the game, but Girardi should have filed a protest. (Though he was right in saying he expects that the umpires knew the rules when they viewed the film.)

Jorge has to go. He's the first "Core 4" guy I just cannot stand to watch. I yell at my Little Leaguers for watching strike 3s not even that close. But that's Jorge. He just watches pitches go by and bitches about them. He's awful and it's time to move on. One game of heroics doesn't erase the whole year.

Speaking of one game of heroics and whole years, how about Jeter? He's not hitting them over the fence, but he's hitting them. I'm very happy to see it.

Bart's shot. He just hasn't been able to bounce back since the hammy injury. He can still pitch though, so maybe the answer now becomes CC, Nova, Hughes, Garcia, AJ with Colon in the pen.

Regardless, we're a half-game up on Boston, so that's nice. Let's hope they keep rolling.

Jeter has been red hot since coming off the DL.

He had that 5/5 day of course but he's kept hitting.

He tied his career high with 5 games in a season with at least 4 hits.

    He's now 15 for his last 27.

When he went on the DL, he was .260/.324/.324

    Now: .290/.349/.380

considering the pitching staff they've been running on this season, i'd say they have over achieved thorougly. proud of the boys this year, i wasn't feeling to good at the
    beginning of the season.

Before anyone starts thinking that Jeter's completely turned back the clock, it's worth checking out his splits since coming off the DL... he's still hitting LHP very well, and not so much against the RHP. That's been the trend for the past year and a half.

    LHP: .500/.538/.750 in 39 PA
    RHP: .265/.327/.353 in 115 PA

That doesn't include last night's game, though.

yeah I just saw an article on that. I was considering mentioning it.

Took Jeter on beat the streak last night against a lefty and it worked out nicely.

I agree that Posada's completely done, and I agree that strike 3 was too close to take, but I can't get on Jorge too much for that at bat.

When you look at that strike zone plot (especially considering that Soria had thrown only 4 strikes in his previous 16 pitches,) it's just mindboggling. Every team both benefits and suffers from bad umpiring throughout the season so I won't complain too much, but between the last at bat and the homer that wasn't the umps really fucked us last night.

Doesn't look that bad. I routinely see umpires calling strikes on pitches that are outside by more than that.
