I might come up with something witty to say about there already being a thread on this, but there will be 15 more threads to choose from.
KFFL Jets | Team agrees with D. Ferguson Wed, 26 Jul 2006 17:56:17 -0700 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets and OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the fourth pick of the NFL Draft, have reached agreement in principle on a contract, according to NFL sources. Neither Jets officials nor Ferguson's agent, Don Yee, would comment, and terms of the deal were not available. Ferguson is expected to report to training camp along with the Jets' veterans Thursday, July 27, and to participate in the first practices of camp Friday, July 28, as the team's starting left tackle.
Well, it's not surprising, but glad to finally have it over with. I'm curious how much he got paid, though.
Jets | Mangold agrees in principle on a contract Wed, 26 Jul 2006 18:30:38 -0700 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports the New York Jets have agreed in principle on a contract with first-round pick C Nick Mangold, according to an NFL source. The deal is expected to be completed late Wednesday, July 26 and Mangold is expected to report to training camp on time Thursday, July 27.
Great job once again by Tanny. Not much more can be said of how critical getting Brick and Mangold in camp on time meant to the team.
Thats impressive. There arent many first rounders signed at all, and weve got both of ours in. Not to mention I believe Ferguson is the only top ten pick signed, other than Mario Williams, whos been signed since pre draft.
I think the Raiders got Huff signed. That would make us the thrid team in the top 10 to sign our player.
The Jets and D'Brickashaw Ferguson appeared close to a contract agreement last night, assuring that the fourth overall pick will be on the field for the first day of training camp tomorrow. The expected signing of Ferguson, the Freeport product who will start at left tackle, and anticipated agreements with center Nick Mangold (29th overall) and quarterback Kellen Clemens (second-round pick), should leave general manager Mike Tannenbaum's streak of no rookie holdouts since James Farrior in 1997 intact http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spjets0727,0,5157987.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines
It certainly appears as though the "no hold out" record was Tannenbaum's all along, doesn't it? i hope Clemens in in by Friday... I'm a'goin to TC!
The practical side of this is that there was no way Tannenbaum was going to leave Mangini hanging at crucial positions at the start of training camp. Not getting every player in before the start of camp was going to compound what by all indications will be a difficult start to the Mangini era. I'm sure Clemens will sign before the opening of TC. I would imagine the only complication with the Clemens signing is that there need to be escalator clauses in his contract based on playing time.
According to JI: All picks signed (Including Clemens) I just received an email from them, from the grand pooba himself: With just a day left before players are required to report for training camp, Jets Insider.com has learned that the team has agreements in principle with their remaining unsigned draft choices, Tackle D?Brickashaw Ferguson, Center Nick Mangold and Quarterback Kellen Clemens.
