    he just wants to win.

Mawae wants to win, he is getting old.

If he knows there is a player who is a big cap hit and knows he wont be able to play at the same level because of injury..he is going to say what he feels.

He wants to win. And by restructuring or cutting penny will help this team get closer then he is going to suggest it..mawae is a team player...but he is not going to get dragged down by anybody he is a competitor.

You're right, GH. I'm jumping the gun a bit here. However, with an Oline anchored by Mawae and Kendall and an effective Penny behind center, I saw us as, maybe, 8-8 next season. If we blow up the whole offense, we're going to have a long year ahead of us.

    This is inaccurate.

They can't save 7.5M if they pay the roster bonus. Why? His cap hit is 12M, 3 of which is prorated signing bonus from 2004. 3 more would be from the roster bonus, only leaving the 6 remaining. Pro rate that and you save 4.5M, not 7.5M

There IS an upside to all of this. With the Jets out of contention for the next 2 years at least, why not take the huge cap hit NOW when it won't hurt our chances of a Playoff run?

This is the PERFECT opportunity to purge the organization of all the bloated contracts. Pennington is in no position to play hardball here. Couple that with a unratified CBA and perhaps a owner's lockout down the road and Pennington should just take the money and STFU. Same for Mawae.

I'm not surprised by Pennington's reaction here. He's already stated that he's "given alot to this team". To me, that means I ain't giving back sh't. Now Mawae, Kendall and Martin? With Herm gone, their main benefactor has abandoned them all and now they're just aged vets with bloated contracts.

Dang, I hope we don't end up with a hockey type lockout.

Cman, what you just said is HUGE. Herm's departure is going to pay us huge residual benefits that most of us never envisioned at the time of the announcement. When you consider all the hand-holding, all the Koom-Bye-Ah sessions, all the favoritism... it's going to reverberate throughout the entire locker room. No one is safe now.

That's good. That's the way it should be. You compete for the starting position and we consider you if you're better than the other guy and can help us win, period. All others need not apply.

I can't wait for camp to open.

This is going to be the most interesting off season and training camp since Parcells first year.

well I didn't think Pennington was going to take an 89% paycut no matter how much of a team player he is, I still think that there is plenty of time to met somewhere in the middle

I have a problem in sports with contracts. Once you sign a contract, that's it - that's what you agreed to. I have a problem with Gary Sheffield complaining that he wants more money. He signed the contract, play it out, like you agreed upon, and stop your whining.

On the other hand, the JETS and CHAD negotiated this contract, and both parties signed it. They both obviously agreed to the deal with each of their signatures. And when you offer someone a contract, it all of a sudden doesnt get thrown out because of injuries.

My point is, the JETS shouldn't be mad at Chad for not reworking his deal. Becuase they offered it to him - and he signed it. I UNDERSTAND tyhem asking him to rework it, but if he says no, you have to understand. And lets not forget - he took a paycut to get LC in here, good or not.

Obviously, good point, but unlike baseball there is a salary cap and they need to make decisions for the TEAM.

I totally agree. Pennington (or his agent) should know not to squeeze any more out of this team without giving anything back. Screw the Mr. Jet crap. He's a high paid towel waving cheerleader IMO. Take what's offered, I don't think he's going to do much better anywhere else.

I don't think chads like that honestly, i just feel he's worried about his injury. I can't blame him for this decision.

I honestly don't know what Pennington is thinking here. If he gets released he isn't going to get a bigger contract anywhere else, and he might not even get a chance to start. Here he'll more then likely be the starter, with a 1m contract and a chance to earn a TON more then he would earn anywhere else with incentives.

What part of this doesn't make sense for Pennington regardless of how he feels about his arm or his future?

I can't blame him because of this, but the way everyone expects for a team player should take an 89% pay cut is rediculous
