By my definition a pass that is longer than 30 yards in the air.

J/K , but whats the point in having a receiver run over 30 yards and have the ball float down behind him?

Ashley is a selfish premadonna who is not half as good as she thinks she is.
It would be a big mistake to bring her in.

Believe me when I say that if we brought her here this board would hate her. She drops too many passes and does not catch the ball over the middle.

    this is a strange thread,
"if he and kellen clemons can get on the same page they can be a dynamic duo"

Clemons will not even be on the field! It would then be likely that Lelie and Clemons would be dynamic cheerleaders at best.

We don't need what Lelie has to offer. He would not make the Jets any better. We need to get into canp this wknd and start working with the recievers we have.

McCareins costs 2.42M in base salary and 1M in pro rated signing bonus this season.

Couple that with the fact that McCareins is better than Lelie and man is that an awful trade. It would cost Denver 2.42M to have McCareins.

I don't think McCareins is noticeably better than Lelie. In fact at this point, I would rather have Lelie because if he is one thing, he is a deep threat. McCareins is more of a possession guy while Lelie can't be relied upon underneath. Well we have guys who can go underneath but no one who can just burn the CB. However, at the same time I agree that would be an awful trade for the Broncos, I mean they obviously don't need an extra receiver, why would they want McCareins? They are looking for other positions like TE and RB not WR.

McCareins with the Titans was a deep threat.

He was the #3 with the Titans but not necessarily a "deep threat", his matchups were usually favorable at his position. He had a pretty good 03 and looked like he may be blossoming so the Jets took a shot. As the #2 guy with the Jets he has never been a deep threat, how many times have we seen that go route run with him never getting to the ball. In addition, he seems to have a penchant for having quite a few muscle pulls and such (sort of like Moss). He played badly last year, albeit again he was supposedly pretty banged up. I wouldn't be shocked if Cotchery takes over at the #2 this year. Should be a fun battle to watch in TC....

in Ji2004's defense McCarreins and Lelie are basically the same receiver, stat-wise.

    No F'in Way!
That guy can't catch, how are you gonna respect for his speed if he can't catch the ball. Some of it may be Jake the Snake, but I haven't seen anything good out of him. Reminds me of James Jett from the Raiders, fast as the wind, but no hands.

Good thing about Ashley Lelie is he has caught 5 passes over 40 yards in each of the last 3 years. It's tough to find anyone to match that stat. Now if we could only get someone to throw the ball oer 40 yards...

I agree Lelie is vastly overrated, mostly by himself, but if he comes cheap, and without the attitude, two very unlikely scenarios, I think he is and can be a very good #2. He just has to get that through his head and he will be fine. He is not good enough to beat the best CBs in the league but playing "off ball" so to speak he can catch defenders sleeping on him and bust loose.

I bet he was cause they had a QB that could throw the ball 40-50 yards. In new york none of are recivers were deep threats. it is kinda hard too be a deep threat when you QB can barely thow 20 yards. That why Ramsey will turn everything around and make McCareins a deep threat again and he will also help Coles get over 1000 yards this season.
