I know im going to get crucified for this but the New York Jets could very well be the Detriot Tigers of football this year...not a person in the world could have predicted much less even though that after so many distraght years of being in the cellar, that they could have the best record in baseball...so why cant the Jets be the Tigers? Im not saying it will happen but people's pessimism on this board makes me want to post it just to put the point out there oh yea...:jets:
It would be cool, but it took the Tigers a few seasons to total misery to pick up the young arms that are carrying them now.
very true but dont you think that those young arms that they now have, developed so much faster then everyone had anticipated...my point is whose to say that our rookies dont create such an impact ( i.e Rothlesberger) that we could make a playoff run or possible more... i know i know...patheticaly optimistic...
I doubt it. There's just way too many question marks with this team to even be hoping for an 8-win season. 1. QB mess. 2. Aging Martin with no one to succeed him. 3. Rookies on O-Line. 4. Weak WR corp. 5. Weak TE corp. 6. Will D-Rob be able to play NT? 7. Where will the pressure come from now that Abe is gone? 8. Will Vilma be hampered from the switch to 3-4? 9. Besides Dyson, can any one out there cover WRs? 10. New systems on both O and D. ...hell, there are issues in practically every nook and cranny of the team. Hard to think they'll suddenly be leading their division, much less the league, don't you say?
thats my point...who in baseball looked like they had these problems before the season started?? the detriot Tigers...look at them now! We are in a league where teams can take drastic turns at any point ( i.e Kurt Warner and the Rams after a dismal season) in times in which it seems hopeless...are you going to say that there is absolutly ZERO chance that they can make this happen...what happens if everyone performs top notch...then what? We only play 16 games, possibly 20...baseball has to be consistent over 162...performance from unlikely places can happen no im not :drunk: im drinking coors lite
Unfortunately, your question could also be, why can't the Jets be the Kansas City Royals or Pittsburgh Pirates of the NFL. If you're going to make a prediction, predicting that a 4-12 team won't suddenly be very good is a lot more reasonable than predicting that they will.
yeah and the tigers had... 1. inconsistant and young starting pitching 2. over payed players getting hurt 3. bad defence 4. a bad manager 5. their closer retired after a aweful year 6. the bullpen sucked this team could be good if the QB, like the tigers pitching, is consistant
its so easy to assume that in the position that they are in...thats why im presenting the other side of it...why cant they be good when expected to be bad...instead of----> we suck...we are expected to suck...so we are going to suck...<------ that doesnt present anything to talk about... thats pretty much the jist of what its like here on tgg all the time
When was the last time the Jets won the Super Bowl...IF you dont know that answer turn in you jet jersey now....AND the season is still going buddy...the point is that they have the best record in the league...which means that they are COMPETING!!!!! thats enough to ask of the Jets this year...mainly because everyone expects them to roll over.
Very optimistic. Rookies tend to make alot of mistakes and get taken advantage of by the other team's vets......
Just don't have a mental breakdown if this season doesn't live up to your high expectations.... Of course we could do well, but what the tigers have done is not normal to say the least. Not to mention there coach has experience where as were young even in our coaching staff.
No, because the tigers have Ordonez, Pudge, and Guillen as a base and the Jets dont really have a base, the tigers have a young core of pure talent, the Jets have a young core of talent that is waiting to be tapped (Brick, Clemens, Houston maybe, Mangold, Schlegel, Rhodes, Cotchery) the Jets could be the tigers next year or the year after.
how about their pitching? who expected them to take off like they did? i know i didnt...and if you say you did then your lying through your teeth!
