This sounds like the best plan to me (unless Cro will take just a little more than Rogers) and now that Lofa Tatupu is on the market thats an interesting prospect also. People are really seeming to overlook Rogers as a very viable option here. Just compare their numbers from last year, with Rogers playing in 3 less games their numbers are still very similar. Cro had 5 more pass deflections but playing oposide to Revis and in 3 more games thats expected.
Then you really shouldn't have had a problem with my initial response. People NEVER said he wasn't the best available corner. That was NEVER stated in this thread. The people who criticized him did so in order to comment on his value for a contract. If that wasn't part of your original post, then I fail to see how mine was "literally just a rehash". It was directly stated in my response. You said we shouldn't overpay. In my response to you, I said that we'd HAVE to overpay to retain his services. If you're sticking to your idea that we shouldn't overpay, it stands to reason that we shouldn't sign him. Perhaps you could define where his value stands in your opinion. I know what the market has dictated thus far. Nnamdi commanded $12 million. Joseph commanded nearly $10 million. Do you really think that Cromartie is going to come at anything but a comparable number? Anything over $8 million is an overpayment IMO. I don't see how anyone can take a look at his style of play and our current cap and argue with that. As far as his asking price coming down, why would it? There are multiple teams still looking for a CB and he's the only top level CB left on the market. There's no reason for his asking price to decrease.
I agree, to an extent. 8-9 mil might be a bit of money Cromartie, BUT he gives us more depth in the secondary, which we need. We're not getting Pool back and there's no big safeties out there that we're going to spend our money on. I'm sure we can give him a pretty lucrative contract without breaking the cap. I like Wilson and I think he can step up into the #2 position down the road, but our secondary is thin as it is. If Cro's not looking for 10-11 mil a year, I think getting him back couldn't hurt.
To hope that Wilson is the answer aint cutting it-----we need to have the answer not just hope for the best. Many first rounders have not panned out and I am not saying he won't , but last year he was alswys chasing and NEVER LOOKING BACK
Much better response. Although, I don't know why you keep harping on the fact that people NEVER said he wasn't the best CB available. I never made this point in order to call out other posters. I was just merely stating a fact, something that you're agreeing with. So we're on that same page for that point. Overpaying is generally a subjective term. $10 mil for Cromartie is an overpayment for some, for others its something like $8 mil. I agree with you that $8 (maybe $9) mil should be his max, and I believe we can sign him at that price. He isn't better than Joseph who netted $10. The fact that he's been on the market this long (especially since Aso signed, and since the beginning of FA, is somewhat long considering teams should be scooping him up as fast as possible) shows me that at least some teams aren't going to overpay for his services, something I told you that it isn't 100% necessarily true that someone is going to overpay for him. Yes there are teams in need of a CB, but not everyone wants to break the bank for his services. He is a number #2 CB. Most teams would be scared to pay $8 plus mil for a #2, which is why I think his asking price comes down, unless its the Jets that want him (and in this case I would prob overpay a mil or two more) for the simple reason there is no one else in FA for our system, and our defense takes a BIG hit without him. I should've clarified my 'overpayment' response. I wrote that post after seeing a tweet that Cimini stated about Cro wanting money close to Aso. So overpaying in that sense is a terrible idea since Aso makes 12. But I would be happy with 8-9. Again though, overpaying is a subjective term. So we'll see where he comes in. But good post and thanks for clarifying.
They are the same player to me the only difference is Asante likes to catch the ball more and can cover these little wideouts... They both play off of the man too much and cant tackle for shit. On this team Asante is the better option, with the amount of balls that go to the 2nd DB alteast he will intercept a shit load of them and not get a ton of pass interference calls on 3rd down.
No you can't. There is no way he is coming here. His cap hit this year is $9 million or so, and he can't play press coverage and he is a gambler. Ryan wants corners who can cover tightly and not guys who gamble on picks and get burned. With the blitzes the Jets run, Samual will get burned too much. Plus, after getting burned by Philly in the Aso sweepstakes, do you really think the Jets want to shower Philly with draft picks too for their trash????
Im all for letting Wilson start you'll never know till he is on the field and the Trade deadline should still be till the middle of Oct. TAKE OFF THE TRAINING WHEELS. I'm a boise fan and watched Kyle his whole tenure. This kid's got game let him get burnt on national TV and learn
It could be much worse. Imagine being a 49er fan and looking at our current depth chart. fftopic: Phillip Adams Terell Brown Shawntae Specer Chris Culliver Tramaine Brock Nelms, Cory Are the Jets not confident in Kyle Wilson?
#2 CB is more important on this team than other teams since he'll get thrown at more because team's don't throw at Revis. I don't want to overpay Cro, but if we do it's not the worst thing in the world because we need a good player at that position.
I can see this if we are in rebuilding mode which we are not, thank God. He is not ready. We need to get Cromartie signed and move on. I just cant see signing any other CBs other than Cro at this point. As far as Assante goes, the guy was a Jet killer in NE but as mentioned above the dollars don't make sense.
