That's a pretty interesting article. Looks like Wilson is keeping his eye on the prize. We'll be rooting for him come that start of football.
While nobody was expecting him to be Revis right off the bat, you should expect a first round pick to be somewhat serviceable, and he wasn't even that. He was beyond awful. Not saying there isn't hope for the guy, but he'll never be more than above-average in this league. Which is fine - we already have the best in the biz. Let's not delude ourselves into thinking Wilson will be anything special.
Kareem Jackson was taken ahead of KDub in the draft by the Texans....and he was burned religiously on a weekly basis last season. It's called "baptism by fire". Let these kids learn. Year 3 is usually the time to start evaluating their worth.
The kids gotta learn to read the wr eys and turn his head around i saw a chance at some picks if he would of just turned his head
Turning his head around to locate the ball was his biggest problem last season, and it's no surprise because he was a rookie and this is a skill that is both very difficult and it takes time and experience to develop. This is an area that Revis excels at, so working with Revis will definitely help his technique. However, knowing when to turn your head around against any WR worth anything has a lot more to do than watching his eyes. A good WR/QB combo will have the timing down perfectly, so if you wait for the WR to turn around before moving your head, you'll be a split second late. I know Revis studies his opposition on film better than any DB in the league. He probably looks for tells from each WR. I heard him say in an interview that finding a WR's habits, moves, techniques, and tells are essential to shutting him down. Some WRs may stutter step, move their shoulders, etc before turning their body to catch a pass. Also, Revis has built up such a reputation that most QBs don't even bother to throw to the WR he's covering. I've seen Revis test plenty of QBs by purposely giving a WR a cushion or being a few yards out of position. If the QB throws the ball to him, he still breaks up the play. This obviously requires a lot of skill, but his film study allows him to do things that he otherwise wouldn;t P.S. Vince thanks for the articles. Please keep us updated with anything you can. It's a slow off-season, and any Jets news is greatly appreciated
agreed with everything you said here. It takes time for a rookie CB to get his head around. It was Wilson's biggest problem and thankfully its one that gets remedied with experience. Wilson has all of the physical tools and he clearly has the work ethic to become great. If he keeps working like this, he is going to be a good one. How good all depends on Kyle Wilson. But I have faith that he can show extreme strides this year, and in year 3 he will be fantastic. He won't ever be Revis, but he can be a damn great player here in New York.
good news The good news is he doesn't have to be the next Revis. We have the all-time corner on one side getting a huge paycheck. An adequate one on the other side who won't break the bank allows room for that big pass rush contract (I feel like this is a becoming a broken record that the team won't fix :sad. How many years are left under Wilson's contract?
srqman1 Have you ever played a sport?(at least dodgeball in pre-k). No disrespect, just asking. Vincent Wilson
I have complete faith that Wilson will be a major impact player this season. You can obviously tell he can stay with anyone in the league, and this time with Revis will have worked wonders. IMO
I can't wait for the season to start, and for Wilson to serve up a big ass slice of humble pie for all the haters.
One season was likely too little to see Wilson's true instincts in NFL-level competition, but it's hard not to fall in love with his skill set. His heart is not in question and he is now learning from the most technically sound cornerback in the NFL. This young man has a bright future.
Beyond Awful is not the right phrase. Not even close. It's called being a rookie at a skill position.
too many fans are spoiled especially with revis. Wilson can cover, he kept in stride with just about every route ran on him. Revis even had trouble turning his head to make plays on the ball his first yr or two. people will be eating crow and be proud to do so in a year or two when hes gotten some more stripes.
Suddenly this is probably one of the most important things to happen this offseason.....hope it really paid of.....
Amazing that not one of us on this message board would have thought that Kyle Wilson would suddenly become such a factor in our overall 2011 success. I think the kid will have a much better season if given the chance to play regularly. What I'm really hoping for is significant contributions from both our draftees and Wilson. If that happens, then wasting time on Aso won't be the calamity that at first glance, it appeared to be. We really need to simply pressure the QB, not necessarily sack him. That's where Revis and Wilson comes into play in m2m coverage.
Last Preseason "We don't need Mevi$, did you see Kyle Wilson vs the Giants .... The Kid is gonna be Star" And than Week 1 happened and nobody wants to give the kid a chance again. I don't want Tanny to take it up the Ass with Assholemuga's agent ... I mean Cro's Agent and Rather let Kyle play.
Revis Wilson Strickland Cole Lowery will probably play FS. But don't worry... we'll sign someone. Cromartie, Clements, Rogers would all be good fits...
