This is my own opinion. No reporter news or rumors about Floyd. Malcolm Floyd is the deep threat the Jets need, as well as the young #2 WR they currently lack. Floyd size and speed, and RAC ability is similar to Braylon. He can make people miss after the catch, and is the type of physical WR that we all love. Sanchez throws a pretty deep ball. Floyd has made a good career out of catching Rivers' jump balls and coming down with them. That's what this offense needs to stay balanced and strong. Floyd is better than Moss, because he's younger and will run more than 3 routes. He also isn't a slouch and has not shown signs of habitual quitting during games. Do you really think you're going to allow Moss to quit the way he's done on every team he's played on? Rex is an amazing coach, but Moss is a different breed of player. He will quit on this team during games. Sanchez doesn't need that bullshit. Neither do the Jets, or we the fans. Floyd is one of the best cases for complimenting Holmes in the WR corp. Let's hope he's on Tanny's short list. I'd like to see him here, and he won't command a top contract.
If not Braylon, then certainly Floyd is the next best option. I don't any reason why he wouldn't flourish in our offense.
I like floyd...Fuck it this year there are tons of #2 options at WR. Lets go get one of them that is cheaper then Braylon
being a San Diego native I've followed M80 (yes, that's a sick nickname) the last few years. he can really go up & get the ball. really knows how to use his size. he won't come as cheap as moss would though. I'd like this signing for sure.
Good points. I really think Moss was just a cheap WR option if we signed Aso. I think he's off the table. Floyd looks like a good option to replace Braylon.
His teammate wouldn't be a bad number 4 either, at a cheap price, of course. Legedu Naanee, 6-foot-2, 220....Floyd is definitely more the prototypical number 2. More I think about it...Floyd, Naanee > Edwards.
Absolutely on board with signing Floyd and he should be our first priority if Braylon is out. I would gladly spend the money on him to pair him with Sanchez and Holmes for the next 4-5 years.
Moss is a two year deal where he doesn't see that 2nd year. He's 34. Floyd can sign a contract that keeps him here until he's 32. Thats why it'll be more expensive, but the cap number can be smaller this season.
He'll be 30 by time the season starts & is injury prone. However I like him and wouldn't mind signing him to be our deep threat.
And the impact will be great for all 4-5 of those seasons than Moss would have in that 1 or 2 seasons. I really hope this is the route we go and not James Jones, aka, Cotchery with worse hands. We CANNOT go into next season without a tall deep threat. CANNOT.
Sign me up. I pretty much agree with everything the OP wrote. (although, the childish fan in me would enjoy seeing Randy Moss in a Jets uniform)
floyd is exactly what we need. I thought he was going to explode last year playing opposite Vincent Jackson... When Jackson never showed up he was in trouble. Floyd is not a legit #1 option at this point in his career. That said, He is definately a quality #2. He has the ability to be the big bodied target we currently lack. He has the speed to take the top off of defenses and will come in and be a team player. This is the type of signings we need. Guys (preferably young) have shown the ability to excel, but just need to put it all together on the field. They will be cheap(er) and if they reach their potential under our staff....
I think Floyd would be a great addition if they cannot sign Edwards which appears to be the case. Keller should also have a better year this year, since he started to decline in catches per game once Holmes came back and Sanchez started focusing in those too. Cotchery is a good 3rd receiver so I think with Floyd we would have a decent receiving group.
