I guess that the addition of Haynesworth doesn't so much mean Brace is a bust... all of a sudden it looks as if Brace will be starting. I'm interested to see where the strategy behind Warren's release is... right now it just doesn't make sense.
Would he need to clear waivers before the Pats could resign him to a different deal? Or does that only happen that way during the regular season? Maybe it's just something like that... I agree though, doesn't seem to make a lot of sense right now to weaken an area that you (hopefully) strengthened 24 hours ago...
oooh I would have thought they'd give him some more time to recover from his injury if that is all he needed, but that definitely clarifies it a bit. Thanks.
http://www.patspulpit.com/2011/7/29...en-including-ty-warren-alge-crumpler-and-nick According to this, his release is only saving us 200K, which means $$$ wasn't the problem...
I REALLY wish we could keep Crumpler too. He will do good things for another team's run production (assuming he has no plans to retire???). EDIT: There is speculation that he will resign at lower cost
Let me tell oh a story about Ty Warren. Last year, he skipped the Patriots camp to pursue a degree. Ok, whatever. But when he finally shows up, he just then figures out he needs some serious surgery on his hip. He comes to this years training camp and fails both his physical and conditioning test. He failed the test because, apparently, he pulled his hammy as soon as he started running. Ty Warren was a great player. The keywor being was. The Jets would just be wasting their money and time signing him.
Think he also had a 5+ mil cap charge as well so it was a double whammy. Edit: yeah, forgot about the weird dead money clause in the new CBA.
Any dead money from a player cut after june 1 comes off of this year's cap and is put on 2012. Basically, the pats don't feel he can be depended on to work as hard as possible to get healthy and on the field. I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if the Pats don't bring Crumpler back with a reconfigured deal.
Considering all reports so far show him being pretty content and happy, blowing up the o-line (backups, didnt practice against mankins/light as one can't practice yet and the other isn't signed), and as passing his conditioning test, I think we dodged that for now. Far too early to tell but he so far doesn't appear to be of the Redskins variety.
