Come on, in a city with as many people as NY and a scope that reaches even farther, do you think these multi-million-dollar enterprises could dig up someone with just a little more perspective and a little less self-importance than guys like Serby, Cimini, Canizzarro and the like? Seriously, these guys are intellectual vagrants.

What really boggles my mind is how their crap actually sells. They rarely have an original thought or provide any insight the common fan couldn't already see. And whatever interesting tidbit they actually do come up with is probably way off base speculation.

    Abyz,

Not to defend this group of clowns, but are there good beat writers somewhere else in the NFL? If a guy has an interesting perspective, then it isn't long before he is made a columnist. There is a reason these guys have been beat writers for the same team for so many years. If they were motivated to be creative, innovative thinkers, they would be on their way to bigger and better things.

That's just it, why is that allowed to happen? Is New York such a mob of droning ants that you can just toss any refuse to them and it will be skeletonized for the health of the colony?

They aren't any different than the trash that are "hosts" on sports talk radio. There is no such thing as journalistic integrity, just what sells. They are well below used car salesmen integrity wise, but they make more money.

Yes, the bottom line is that despite the rep, NY fans are mostly idiots. Why? because they read and listen to this drivel.

sensationalism sells, not factual stories.. this is why most of the beat writers blow.

I read Newsday on a pretty regular basis, and I think Ken Berger is decent. He keeps his personal opinions in check. The Newsday beat writers don't often write columns featuring their opinions, so a lot of Berger's feelings are hidden, which is good. I'm just comfortable with what I read from him.

Well to defend the to a degree-the members and especially posters on this site are probably mostly die hard fans who get information right when it comes out. We look around for news about the Jets. But for the casual sports fan who maybe doesnt care if they miss a sunday or two gets their information from the paper. So when they read some of these guys columns its interesting and new information to them, and clearly they are the majority.

Well, if anyone remembers, my signature used to say boycott the Daily News and Post. Those papers suck. I agree with MisterMoss. Read Newsday if you can get your hands on it. (It's a bit tougher the past few years since they moved more to concentrating on LI.)

The News and Post are dishrags, with the Post being the worse of the two. It's amazing to me that so many articles in both can be so poorly edited. I shouldn't have to proofread a newspaper article. Right there tells you more than enough to not bother with them. Of course, with The Post being Murdoch's (sp?) personal soapbox, I don't know why anyone even reads it.

But then again, as much as NYers seem to believe they are all "free thinkers" so many people in this city are nothing more than sheep. So as long as these people refuse to read quality writing, these writers will continue to fire off whatever crap they feel will sell the papers.

Serby isn't a beat writer, the only beat writer who sucks is Cimini.

No, but what he does is so valuable, his name doesn't belong anywhere NEAR this thread. I mean, where else would we find out what kind of cake Eric Mangini likes, or which Ninja Turtle Laveranues Coles sees himself as. These are important questions.

My bad, junc, it must be the plethora of horrible Jets articles I've seen from him, I'm going to keep his name up there anyway just to annoy you.

Just like us on this forum they are giving there HO & thankfully in America we do have free press. If you do not like what they write just do not read it. It is that easy. If you think the reporters suck contact the management of the News & POst & make your views known to somebody who can do something about replacing them

You know you are assuming what was written was incorrect by Serby, For all you know his analysis maybe dead on. If he is not then save the post & complain to the paper employing him that he is posting MISINFORMATION. Instead of complaining if you do not like the verbage reported bombard the Post management with complaints instead of moaning/whiining & groaning that the reporters are printing things you do not want to see in print
