Not really, how many career starts does Clemens have? 5 to 10? Lots of the guys on that list have started more than 16. Some have even looked impressive in the regular season, unlike Clemens. Maybe Clemens has some talent that the Jets haven't managed to harvest yet, but the fact that he was the 3rd QB this season makes me think he probably doesn't look that great in practice either.
I'd like Brunell to stay on as a #3 QB. Keep the great mentoring, never see the field. Can Clemens be a #2? I would have thought so, but true he hasn't shown much. The coaches evaluate every practice. We'll get our answer if they let him walk.
Back on topic, the organization is in great shape with Sanchez at QB. This offseason, I'd really like him to improve his footwork. When he gets rattled, it seems like his footwork falls apart and he is prone to making really ugly off-balance throws. It may be just an experience thing that will get cured with more reps in pressure situations, but it is certainly an area that needs work.
The Jets are in GREAT shape with Sanchez. How could anyone doubt this considering how well he played towards the end of the year? So much for the idea that he can't play in late season northeast weather.
Don't let those guys get to you. Anyone who tells another Jets fan that he should go root for another team is way out of line. They have no right to do that. We are all entitled to our opinions. No one should stoop to getting personally insulting.
I've never been a Clemens fan, but those who said he didn't look good in preseason are wrong. It was either this year or last, but he played very well in preseason. I would be more than happy to see him go, but looking at the list of Vet QBs available in FA, I don't see anyone any better, and at least he knows the system, so considering all the other needs the Jets have, I'm not sure letting him go this season would be the wisest thing to do. The problem is, I doubt he would want to stay here. I'm sure he's ready to move on.
He believes (as he should), that he can be a starting QB. I think that he is going to leave and try his luck with a team that he compete for a starting job (Carolina, Minnesota, Arizona, etc.)
The Jets have our first franchise QB since Chad Pennington of 2002. Enough said. Pennington also had his breakout season during his 3rd year in the league with a QB rating of 104.2. Threw for 3,120 yards, 22 TD's/6 INT's with a completion % of 68.9. That was his first year starting for us too. Damn, what could have been. Sanchez had a QB rating of 75.3 last year as a 2nd year QB, throwing for 3,291 yards, 17 TD's/14 INT's with a completion % of only 54.8. He made big time strides when compared to his rookie season though; where he threw for more INT's than TD's. I'm expecting Sanchez to put up numbers such as 3,500 yards, 23 TD's/11 INT's with a completion % of at least 59%. It's time for Sanchez to break out as a 3rd year pro with plenty of playoff experience.
agree 100% priority #1 is getting that completion percentage over or at 60% ALSO.... http://twitter.com/#!/nyjets/status/96323833413373952 Rex Ryan on Sanchez: "This is going to be his team... We will put the C on his jersey this year because he truly is our captain." CAPTAIN SANCHEZ it is than... This is another area he must improve on pumping up and leading the team verbally as well as on the field
Brunell and O'Connell have been cut. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brunell resigned after the free agency period settles.
I agree... sanchez has shown what he CAN do. at this point the only issue is consistency. its not a situation where we are waiting to see more. he made huge strides in just 2 seasons. maybe he isnt aaron rodgers, but he will be very good
