Andre Johnson's contract was for $10.5M / year, 5% more than Santonio Holmes' contract. It was also signed a year ago. So, yeah, he was paid more because he's a better player. Duh.

Larry Fitzgerald's deal is three years old. Accounting for inflation in the salary cap, he got a much better deal than Holmes. Because he's better. Again, duh!

Brandon Marshall can't hold Santonio Holmes' jock strap and he got paid the same. Sheeeeeit.

    The comps are legit.

Also to NDMick: The "DUHs" above were aimed at the poster that responded to me, not you. Sorry, I'm craptastic at hitting Quick Reply.

stop using dre johnsons contract as a comparison ... he had a terrible agent and signed a shitty deal a few years back. he had NO leverage when he got his extension but the texans did him a solid and paid him what the other top wr's were getting

and stop comparing tones numbers (been on winning, running teams his whole career) to these guys who have been on pass happy, average teams ... he makes plays, period

when fitz hits the open market next year you doubters will realize what a good deal this was

PS- as much as I might question the $10 million to Holmes-- nothing compares to Carolina signing Charles Johnson and DeAngelo Williams to those Monster Contracts. Unbelievable.

72 million for a DE that isn't an established player in this league? Damn.

Johnson is only 25. The deal looks OK if he can keep up his production.

Holmes just turned 27, so we could really get another strong 4-5 years out of #10.

He's averaged 14.4 games, 57.4 catches, 916 yards, 5.2 TD's and 44 first downs per season during his first 5 years in the league. That's an average of 3.9 catches, 63.6 yards and 3 first downs per game.

Keep in mind, he wasn't always the #1 option for Roethlisberger and the Steelers, that role belongs to Hines Ward, but Holmes always put up strong numbers with Pittsburgh. His best year was back in 2009, where he put up 79 catches, 1,248 yards, 5 TD's with 63 first downs.

The more I think about it? The more I'm glad we went after Holmes with guns blazing. Santonio Holmes has always been a playoff warrior. This is what I'm enjoying the most, knowing that he'll bring his lunch bag come playoff time. He won't shy under pressure; he lives for big moments.

During the 2007 playoffs he played 1 playoff game against the Jaguars, the Steelers lost by two points, but Holmes put up 3 catches, 49 yards with 1 TD. During the 2008 Playoffs, Santonio Holmes went off. 13 catches, 226 yards with 2 TD's. The SB is where he made his living. 9 catches, 131 yards with 1 TD. That SB MVP award was well deserved. He also had another strong playoff run with us last season, putting up 9 catches, 127 yards with 2 TD's during 3 games of work.

All in all, during 7 career playoff games, he's put up 25 receptions, 402 yards and 5 TD's. Thats an average of 3.5 catches, 58.1 yards and 0.7 TD's per game.

With all that said? I'd love to have Braylon Edwards back with the Jets, but not if it means we miss out on Nnamdi Asomugha playing opposite of Darrelle Revis.

Edwards playing opposite of Holmes or Aso playing opposite of Revis? That's a no brainer. When you have a chance to feature two of the best CB's around, you do it. I'm more than willing to head into the season with Greene, LT, McKnight, Holmes, Cotchery, Keller, Kerley and Scotty McKnight as our offensive weapons.

The signing of Holmes was outstanding, now lets go and get Aso.

Who is making the decision regarding what kind of money the players on offense deserve and whether to go for Holmes or Edwards? Is it Schotty?

If it had been defensive players, the I would have had no worries at all knowing Rex's defensive mastermind is behind the decision, but now the sky is falling, as always in the off-season.

    (I wanted Edwards...)

I'm pretty sure Sanchez had a chance to give some added input, after all, he's our franchise QB. Also, as we all know, Tanny has a lot more pull when it comes to signing players when compared to Shotty Jr. I'm also pretty sure Rex Ryan had a say in this as well.

Yes, I love the overall size of Braylon Edwards, he's also a great run blocker but you can't deny the fact that Santonio Holmes gets open more often due to the fact that Holmes is the much better route runner when compared to Edwards. Best of luck to Edwards, it looks like he's going to an NFC team such as the Bears but it also looks like Aso is coming to the Jets.

    Edwards and Holmes?

    or

    Holmes and Asomugha?

I'll take the later. It'll become an offseason dream come true if we walk away with Aso, Holmes and Randy Moss.

But that is the point, you wanted Holmes/ Aso .... "we" (people of my ilk) wanted Braylon/Aso/B.Smith(or another big receiver Moss or Plax or R.Williams) So again, how are we clueless ?

And maybe I am understanding the way the cap works incorrectly, but I would say even more so than Holmes our biggest needs were to get Harris signed (save $$$) and get Sanchez restructured (save more $$$) so we can afford 2 big impacts players instead of just one, if those needs are not met.

They haven't even gotten to Sanchez or David Harris yet and Tanny is making it all work.. he's the best.
