He already has 6 million in exemptions to mess around with before he even gets creative with shit. I'm not worrying about Tanny working this out. His entire career as GM we have been told the jets would be cap trouble next year and it never happens.
We'll see. Unless it turns out at the last minute that dead money doesn't count, I think we're in for a very tight squeeze this year. With the extra exceptions however, it does make it plausible to sign Holmes and Edwards, however unlikely.
with some restructuring of sanchez, signing harris to a long term deal and some other contract restructuring or even cuts, we could and should have enough to sign these two and hopefully some other key players like pool, smith/landry even, woody/wayne hunter, vet cb, ect...
IMO they should have gotten rid of Bryan thomas the same time they got rid of Damien Woody, Kris Jenkins, Jason Taylor, Vernon Gholston and Ben Hartsock I knew giving him a contract after that big sack year was a mistake...
I can see why they didnt get rid of Thomas. With all the guys mentioned above the Jets had someone "better" waiting in the wings, whether it be Duccase at tackle, or Pouha for Jenkins. I dont know if Im ready for Jamal Westerman to start. There isnt really anyone behind Thomas who looks to have starter potential. I do agree he isnt good and his contract is to high, but if we cut him their isnt anyone to fill his position
The Sanchez restructure and Harris deal are going to be tougher to get done than people think. The Jets will have to get them done in about three days if they want to clear up a lot of cap space (Harris will be on the books for the franchise tag amount until he signs a deal). Landry is going to be way too expensive.

Nobody, has said they have or haven't. But I will say, if they haven't been, the Jets (and any other team looking to restructure deals) are fuckin retarded. I have lots of faith in Tanny. If we can think of this stuff, he must have thought of it months ago, and has been planning accordingly. As soon as this shit goes down, Tanny is going to be a madman. If he sleeps in the first 4 or 5 days of mayhem, i'll be shocked...
Of course they have. There's also a very good chance they've been communicating through backdoor channels. But Sanchez and Harris have a ton of leverage--the Jets need them to do huge new deals fast--and who knows how much they (or their agents) will exploit it. Just because nyjetscap says it's easy to restructure Sanchez's contract and to favorably structure Harris's contract doesn't make it true.
I googled it came up with an article in PFW that suggests that nfl teams were contacting agents and even players directly after the draft, according to agents speaking anonymously. Here's a quote: Of the six agents that PFW spoke to, three said that representatives of NFL clubs even used personal cell phones to contact the agents following the conclusion of last weekend's draft, as opposed to calling from team-issued lines where evidence of tampering might be easier to trace via phone records in any official NFL audit. Two more agents said that teams called players directly in a few cases. "It was almost like a normal year in terms of contact, a little less (phone contact) than normal maybe, only without the signed contracts at the end," one of the agents said. If this isn't made up, it suggests that GMs aren't terrified of tampering charges, and we should see a lot of complex deals signed surprisingly quickly. There are a lot of problems like this league-wide, which is another reason why I think it's impossible to have such a short pre-FA negotiation period without an unofficial head start. Does Braylon's repeated insistence on how much he'd like to give up $$$ to play for the Jets make any sense if they don't have an agreement already? Then again, maybe he's just really that dumb, and so is his agent.
