Exactly. He kept getting shuffled from the inside to the outside and back in camp last year. KW can play the outside just fine. I mean, yeah, he isn't Cro, but he's still young and he's been working with Revis. I have faith in the kid.
This. K-Dub has all the potential to be a great #2 for us. Yeah, the lockout set him back a little in terms of learning the system and more time with the team and coaches but he has all the little things. What he just needs is experience. The kid was there last year, even early in the season when he was getting beat. I remember him being right on the WR's hip, the biggest problem he had was getting his head turned around in time to make a play on the ball. Early on last year it was definitely frustrating cause he was right there but the more playing time he got towards the end of the season you could tell he was finding his groove. I like what I saw in those final games from Wilson last season. Remember he was bounced around a ton last year too. Right from the start of his rookie training camp with the Revis holdout, then back to the nickel, then back to #2 with the Revis injury, then back to nickel again. It was a roller coaster ride all season for the rookie. If he's been putting in his time working out and in the film room the man will be just fine and shut all the doubters up. Of course we may have a drop off from Cro to Wilson in 2011-2012 but when it's all said and done I think we are all gonna be happy we drafted Kyle Wilson.
This has been more or less my opinion of Wilson from the start. People who saying he showed no evidence that he could start don't know how to evaluate a corner. The only major, consistent problem that Wilson had was locating the ball, something all rookies struggle with. More playing time and his extra workouts with Revis are going to help him excel and I fully expect him to be a starter within this season or the next.
Truth. Most people who say they have no faith in him can't evaluate any position anyway. They also think because most draft picks in recent memory have contributed right away, that means every draft pick is going to automatically make an impact the second he walks into the Jets facility. Those who see Wilson as a guy who merely needed reps to slow the game down for him should feel great about what he'll become this season. If he made zero progress for an entire season, we wouldn't have seen him in the AFCCG. He played well in that game, but all people remember is a Big Ben fastball that you needed a catcher's mitt to get a hand on. But apparently it means he sucks. Fuckin fans.
If only he could have helpd on to that INT near midfield that game could have been different. I have high hopes for Kyle, is he ready now? I don't know that. I'm sure if we lose Cro we'll sign another corner anyway. We are going to be fine at corner for years to come.
We may sign another corner is we lose Cromartie, but I'm not sold that it will be a corner of starting caliber. This FO/CS has shown over the past 2 years, with Slauson and Sanchez, and seemingly Ducasse, that they are willing to allow players to grow into a starting role. I can see Wilson starting from week 1, assuming this retard lockout ends in the next week or so.
The problem this year w/ those young guys is they haven't had an offseason. Under normal circumstances I think they would have transitioned to those guys as starters this year but this wasn't a normal offseason.
Worst post so far this year. So someone who's skeptical about whether Wilson should start is a "Jet player hater"? Remind me of that the next time you have anyting slightly negative to say about a Jet player. You must have been a big Gholston fan, too.
Comparing Gholston hate to Wilson hate is just stupid man. Gholston was given his shot and failed miserably to deliver any kind of presence on the field.
Good to see some faith in Wilson. He only really struggled in the first four games. After that he contributed well. Everyone gets beat every now and then, especially as a rookie. Last season, Wilson showed that he can keep up and blanket receivers in man coverage. I think he'll be able to handle most number two WRs, which is all we need him to do.
Playing outside and playing inside are totally different animals. Wilson can play the outside when he can use the sidelines to his advantage, playing inside on the other hand is quite difficult, especially when you rarely had to do it.
It was a play on a term widely used by Pimps I believe. It's funny that's the only part you took from my post, never mind the fact that everything else I wrote is truth so I imagine that's why you avoided responding to that. As for Gholston any idiot can see that was a bust but that has nothing to do with K-Dub.
You miss the point entirely. The post I was discussing was painting those who question the ability of a Jet player with a broad brush. It was an overstatement, a point of subtlety apparently not perceived by you. Having said that, I think there were many who were still hopeful after VG's first year that he would eventually get it together. Sure there were, the Jet FO after all kept him around after that, obviously, no doubt in the hope he would. So the point is still valid on that aspect as well - being a first round pick is not guarantee of success. I appreciate the context for posts here is not always found within a single post, but it should not have been that hard for you to figure out the context here. I hardly was saying that Wilson is another Gholston.
Again, there were some who did think after the first yera that VG was not going to succeed, but the Jet FO did keep him around, giving him more chances to succeed. WHat has to do with Wilson is that it is not a given that as a first round pick he will succeed.
I don't think that there is any doubt that we'll sign another corner. Rex is going to want as much talent as possible at CB. If Cro does walk, I think whoever we bring in would fit the mold of a solid nickle CB who can still push Wilson to perform better in TC. I really doubt we go after a pure starting calibre CB like some have been expecting.
There's no good reason to fear Kyle Wilson as a starter. I think one element of cornerback development that isn't really being discussed, however, is how mercilessly unforgiving the NFL is to developing cornerbacks. The difference between 'best' and 'bust' doesn't necessarily depend on talent- it has a lot to do with opportunity. If you miss some tackles or plug the wrong gap as a young defensive tackle, no big deal- plenty of opportunities to learn from those mistakes. But if you're a young corner, and you get burned by your man for a 70 yard touchdown... well, head coaches aren't too keen to keep you on the field so you can learn from your mistakes and gain experience. There's simply too much at stake. It's not fair, but that's how it is. How does that relate to Kyle Wilson? Hell, I think the kid's got the talent to thrive as a starter. I think it's not only possible, but probable. But to say that he WILL be a star... that's naive. The NFL's an unforgiving place for developing cornerbacks, more than any other position, with the exception of maybe cheap quarterbacks.
No, that "someone" just knows nothing about football. It's not like you're just questioning Kyle Wilson. You've complained about losing other veterans as well. "uuuuuh shaun ellis needs to stay cuz i never heard of muhammed wilkerson before" "uuuuuh cromartie needs to re-sign cuz kyle wilson was thrown into the fire and got beat a few times as a rookie" "uuuuuh joe mcknight threw up at training camp. i saw it on hard knocks! he sucks!"
Everyone rambling about that one pick that went of his helmet should remember, Revis dropped about 3 picks on 3 different drives that led to Pitt scores.
Great article on the CB free agents. It's nice to see a breakdown from someone that isn't completely kissing Cro's ass. http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/03/05/ranking-the-free-agents-cornerbacks/ How many of these guys end up available who knows, but there's three or four I'd take vs. paying Cro $10 mill a year.
I didn't think Cro did all that bad last year, but I don't think he's a Rex Ryan type of player in terms of how he plays. He isn't physical enough. Tons of talent, but his inconsistency was prevalent all season. I personally don't want him back because of his high market value. A Carr or Wilson will do fine as a replacement. Kyle Wilson can step as the #2, but another veteran CB will be needed for depth. There are guys that can play both nickel and outside on this list. I can see them being targeted due to their versatility, which is paramount in playing in Rex's scheme.
