Excellent example. They got a tremendous amount of pressure from their line, especially Seymour. I can't remember a year in which they had a linebacker with double digit sacks throughout that era. Vrabel came close, I believe, but I'll have to check.

EDIT: Vrabel had 12.5 in 2007. No one else from 2001 - 2007 had double digit sacks, although Willie McGinest had 9.5 one season.

I suspect the Wilkerson pick means Shaun Ellis is a goner unless he's willing to take a dirt-cheap offer to play here. Ellis is still a valuable player and it's going to be hard to justify having a a well paid veteran and a number one pick at the same position when the team has needs elsewhere and is likely to have lots of salary constraints.

Not really... Wilkerson could be replacing Trevor Pryce sees as how we need that stable force at RE/DT...

Shaun Ellis could be resigned not saying he would be, we all know this is a business and they don't have to honor anything(Loyalty)...

We also have Mike Devito, Ropati Pitoitua and Marcus Dixon to be that Bull-End Rusher... I think they are hoping for Dixon or Pitoitua to claim it.

It's not so much where Wilkerson will play on the line, it's that you have X draft picks and Y dollars to plug Z holes across the entire team, so once you've used your top two draft picks on the line you probably want to use your money on other positions.

And we have reached the AFC CG twice in two years b/c we believe in our team's overall what now.... you saying...

We addressed two major needs on the D-Line, but we can not be greedy and draft an entirely new defense, there is a "TEAM" aspect here... They are looking into the near future and just in case they can not keep certain players they reached on a few...

L.T. not going to be here after this year and a prospect like Bilal could challenge Joe McKnight to be that tandem "X" player to share time with Shonn Greene in the future. Bilal also runs the wild-cat formation, could be useful there too.

Jeremy Kerley has Return capabilities, just case in point we might not be able to resign everyone and to draft someone that has that potential is not a bad selection.

Kellen Clemens has proven he is worthless, only thing is he knows is the X's & O's but barely... Erik Ainge well rehab is exciting for him... Drew Willy yea maybe not... Mark Brunell broke as they come with some valuable info for Mark Sanchez, but when it comes to find a true back-up we did just that drafted one in the last round...

Mark Sanchez apparently has a clause in his contract to have input on at least one draft pick, could be the reason his running buddy was selected.

    I'm sorry, I don't follow.

I'm just guessing that they don't re-sign Ellis and use the money elsewhere (for an OLB or a safety, for example).

add Antwan Applewhite to the list. Guy just got arrested for DUI. He is listed as a DE on NFL.com, but he plays standing up.

Had 48 total tackles, 3 sacks, 2 Passes defensed, and started 13 games last year. 25 years old, and was undrafted in 2008.

Chargers really wanted to resign him before the DUI too.

LT and Cromartie could help make it happen

It readily available on the internet. The guy was a solid passrusher in canada. Now he will get a shot in the NFL.

I think that the Jets want Ellis back, but it will depend upon Shaun and how much money he wants and/or how long a deal. I read somewhere that he has been wanting a long-term contract for the last year or two. That wasn't and isn't going to happen. At best, he will get a 2-year offer, and more likely a one-year, incentive-laden deal. Some team might offer Shaun more money than the Jets want to pay or can pay with their other FAs, If so, will he opt for the money or finish his career with the Jets and hope for another shot at the SB?

He still has value. I don't think Pryce will be back unless Ellis isn't. I'm not counting on much from Ropati this season, especially early. I think it takes a year or two to completely recover from a torn Achilles. I don't want the Jets to rush him back and have him re-injure it or tear the other while favoring the injured leg. I want him around long term. Hopefully, Dixon and Gilbert will show that they are ready to make big contributions on the field, and Wilkerson and Ellis will develop quickly. Depending upon how they feel about the young guys, the Jets may let Shaun walk and decide to use the money he would have taken towards re-signing another 1-2 of their own FAs, or possibly signing a FA OL, S or maybe even OLB.

Antwan Barnes could be a good signing (he played under Rex in Baltimore). Cactus would still start and Barnes could be used on 3rd downs to rush the passer.

Come one, there is almost a 100 people viewing the Jets forum right now. No one has anything to add??

Too bad we didn't try Ricky Sapp last year. On the Eagles and went right to IR but I think he's the type of hidden talent we need to find in the undrafted free agent pool.

Too bad the Kamerion Wimbley is off the market.

Ok heres the thing, I think the Jets need to sign their guys first. Once that is done what player can we get with the amount that is left?

that is the obvious answer, but we are trying to have fun here, and speculate who we could get.

I think the Jets would love to have Ellis back, as would I, to hold down the fort for one more year, and I think there's a better than 50% chance he will be back.. but I think there's also definitely a chance a team will give him like a 2 year $8 million offer or something like that that the Jets won't want to match.

If that happens, I would bet anything Rex lures Trevor Pryce out of retirement for 1 more year to tutor Wilkerson. One of the first things Rex said about Wilkerson is that he reminds him of Trevor Pryce. Who better to teach him and mentor him during his rookie year than Trevor Pryce in that case? I don't know if the coaching staff would be confident relying on just Wilkerson and Pitoitua at one DE spot heading into the season and would prefer to have one of Ellis or Pryce back to help out.

As for the OLB spot, I don't think the Jets will have much free money available to sign a free agent. I think the most likely option is that they bring Jason Taylor back for another year..

What do people think about Matt Roth? I remember he played standing up in Miami for a year, and was pretty good. I think he played mostly DE in Cleveland last year, but we know he is versatile at least.

I'm not saying this guy is going to address our pass rush, but he is better than Bryan Thomas is. If we could sign Roth to a 3 year deal, and trade Thomas for a 4th/5th perhaps. Or..just have to release the guy. I'm sick of seeing a giant sand bag opposite of Pace.

I read the pft article on Roth today as well. He would be a great mid tier FA signing that could make a big difference. Given the abbrieviated offseason id hold onto BT though. Roth makes plays and plays hard, liked playing under the other Ryan last season--makes sense

Just read the whole thread tonight. Great points on all sides.
I know the thread title is FA's, but isn't 2012 draft loaded with LB much like 2011 was loaded with DL?

I agree with alot of what you ate saying. The jets arent gpi to want to pay ellis anymore than 2.5 mil a yr. If ellis isnt cOming back, I think the conversation on who is going to replace him is more interesting than who will we get a olb. Although Pryce is an option i do not think it really makes sense. Pryce would act like j taylor last year, he would Play minimal snaps at opportune situations. The jets need a de who could realistically start and play the length of the game if we needed him to. Because if devito got injured we would be screwed. We are in the market for a guy like kenyon Coleman. A player that isnt going to wow you but you know exactly what you are going to get from him, a reliable player...Hmmm what do you know.... The browns cut him

I have been looking around all offseason for a good cheap vet and like someone mentioned matt roth seems to make the most sense to split time with bt and cactus. Although he probably wont demand that much money i still dont see us having the cash for him due to our important 3 that we need to sign.

Which brings u to the question of which two of the three do you keep? Braylon, holmes, cromartie?
