Other than Chrebet, who was not drafted, do the Jets currently or have they in the past ever had any guys that were drafted late and became superstars? I am talking about guys taken in round 4 or later who were expected to be role-players or depth additions, or just sleepers, who came out and made a name for themself an prominent NFL players. When I think of guys like this I think of Tom Brady and Willie Parker.....but other than Chrebet, no other Jets come to mind. And also, do you think anyone from this draft class could reach that status? If Brick and Mangold (who, by the way, needs to be nicknames) reach that status, we won't really be all that surprised. When I look at this year's team going into camp, I think that Schlegel and Washington are the 2 most likely guys to reach this status. But I think Schlegel will be a guy that may be seen as a solid linebacker, not a star. So, have we had any guys that have come from basically nowhere into stardom, and who do you think can do it that we have now?
Brandon Moore was undrafted. Fabini was a 7th rounder I think. David Givens was like 5 picks away from going undrafted.
Well, if you want to go a little further back the Jets drafts of the late 70's produced pretty well. TE Mickey Shuler was drafted pretty low, along with Dan Alexander. Joe Klecko was a 5th round choice , I think. The best example for a star Jets player drafted at the lowest spot possible would have to be Joe Fields the center who played 12 or 13 years and was selected to several pro-bowls. He was drafted in 1975 in I think the 14th round.......All of the above four players made the pro bowl at some point....
a couple of those late 70's drafts set the stage for the success of the early and mid 80's....... and also provided the seed for many new jet fans including myself..... its a damn shame they couldn't get to a superbowl with that early 80's team..... jil
I'm Sure Jerald Sowell was a 7th round pick was actually cut during training camp.We then pickedhim up on waivers.
Fabini was a fourth rounder. Ryan Young and Jason Fergeson were both seventh rounders. Richie Anderson was a nice pick in round six I think.

Mickey Shuler was actually 3rd rd of 1978 (someone above thought he was late round). I saw the Jets drafted John Huarte (Heisman Trophy, ND) in the 2nd round of the 1965 draft.
