Whenever we can sign UDFA's, I think it'd be smart to go for Joseph Lefeged, S, Rutgers and DeAndre McDaniel, S, Clemson. I think either could make a solid backup, and we might have an advantage on Lefeged because he's local.
I really wanted the Jets to take a look at Joe Lefeged...local kid who I think can make this squad at safety. Others I like... WR Jeff Maehl WR DeAndre Brown LB Mark Herzlich QB Pat Devlin
No UDFA signings until NFL agreement in place But when it is signed it will be a frenzy. Teams aren't even allowed to talk to UDFA's until the CBA is signed off on. I would target safety DeAndre McDaniel of Clemson. He is another risk because of off field issues. That's probably why he wasn't drafted. But check out youtube on his name and he is one big hitting, good sized safety who also plays the ball. Exactly what we haven't had. Off field issues worried teams but as an UDFA this is a no-brainer. Also Mark Herzlich, OLB out of BC, would have been drafted in the top 3 rounds if it wasn't for the fact he is cancer survivor. Clearly off all teams list on medical clearance issues. But he is a great leader with talent and a great motor out of BC. Leadership and work ethic off the boards and he is a player too. Finally Pierre allen out of Nebraska would make a nice pickup. Probably better fitted for a 4-3 as a DE but if he could stand up and adjust to coverage he could make a nice OLB. I'd also take the best available kicker and punter. We need better performance than what we've gotten.
I didn't realize McDaniel didn't get Drafted I would take a risk on him especially with the fact that it could fill a need. Id also like to take Herzlich so all the BC/Pats fans Will be pissed when they have to cheer for him as a Jet
The thing is, while we can't contact UDFAs, their agents can most certainly look at team rosters and drafts. I guarantee that players will have a list just like teams do, and they're going to have PLENTY of time to figure out their priorities. UD Free Agency will be quick, but it won't be frantic. Both sides will be active between now and then figuring out who fits where.
Two I've seen From the lists I've seen, and the best is on CBSsportsline, I would target Adrian Moten OLB out of Maryland and DeAndre McDaniel SS out of Clemson. Motem played in a 4-3 and was sideline to sideline, but also rushed the passer and dropped back. The thing that was so intriguing was his production - 6 INT's and 15 sacks as a 4-3 OLB in his career. He blitzed when he had to but it wasn't his first call.He mostly covered. It meant when he did he got there often enough. And he has that trained ability to play standing up. He is not small, and seems to be a nice rotation LB to get. DeAndre McDaniel I mentioned is a perfect in the box hitter who can also cover. Off field issues caused team to pass. But the team seems ok to take chances on thos red flags. Thoe 2 seem like very good choices. There are youtube highlight reels on both. The other I'd like to see is another developmental OLineman and the best possible punter. I would say kicker too but for some reason the good ones are veterans who have gone through their growing pains already. As a matter of fact even Nugent was looking really good for the Bengals last year until he blew out his knee. It takes a few years for a K to get it. Prefer we get one not learning. Plenty of free agent kickers available to replace or at least compete with Folk.
This shocks me given your location  They would instantly leap to the top of junc's favorite players list.
Why do we need a new punter ... Weatherford played well enough. Think he lead the league with punts inside the 20.
Totally forgot about wujciak, cant believe the kid didnt grt drafted. I really hope we pick this kid up. I would lovd for him to be groomed by our mlbs and have him tAke over for scott in a couple of years
in the playoffs, he like quintupled his touchbacks as well... I could see them letting him walk. If you can't kick in the clutch, you can't play for Rex.
