I know that there are many fans that believe the Jets will be no more then a 5-11 at best team this year and even I believe that, but I have also done some thinking and I do this this team can be overachievers, do you remember the Ravens, and the Bucs in their hay-days? they were lead 85% by their defense and their offense was only asked to control the ball, not turn it over and put a few points on the board. I think with Mangini as head coach (a supposed genius at defense) and the talent the Jets have on D this could put the Jets on the right track. There is not really a hole in the defense, maybe DT but even at that position the Jets arent awful. the LB are above average and with vilma and barton I think they could be in the top 10 at LB corp. The DL is above average with Ellis anchoring it downa nd Kimo there for a little help. the secondary is young, quick and talented. I think that the Jets offense is going to be better then expected and the Jets will be somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7, it is going to take a few breaks but I think with the teams the Jets are playing this year its possible. here is how i believe the season will go down: @Titans:W Depending on how well Vince does in training camp, this is Volek's team, they have decent RB and with Bennett and Givens at WR, it makes they pretty good in that department, but nothing the Jets D cant stop, their defense is below average, and I think the Jets can exploit their weakness. Titans ranked 23 in yards rushing last year. Patriots:L @Bills:W Colts:L @Jaguars:L Dolphins:W Lions:W @Browns:W @Patriots:L Bears:L Texans:W @Packers:W Bills:W @Vikings:L @Dolphins:L Raiders:W
We wont win in Buffalo, we never do. Although, if we were going to this would be the year....it will be early in the season and it wont be 10 degrees there.
The only reason why I think the Jets will win in Buffalo is because they have taken 2 more steps back from last year and they are just a pitiful team. I dont see the Jets losing there this year.
In all seriousness, we don't know what we have on defense. I want to be positive and look towards Vilma, Barton, Ellis, Miller and Rhodes providing some excellent cornerstones, but with a new coach, a new scheme and some new players in key positions as well as some old players in new positionswe could legitimately bounce either way. Think about the defensive overhaul with Teddy C. in charge. We were terrible because we changed our personnel so much. It is going to take some time for the players to mesh to each other and the coaching. That said, I sure hope you are right and our D can carry our O.
I believe we can win more than 5 games with our schedule, but soooooo many things have to go perfect. too many question marks.
9-7...which is what the original poster had out record as, is extremely optimistic. I am expecting something like 6-10....but it also could be as bad as 2-14. Tennessee could go either way, I think Miami beats us twice, we could win in Buffalo but likely won't, we could win in Cleveland but likely won't, and should bea Houston and Buffalo at home, and probably Oakland too...and maybe a win in Green Bay.....
hence...a better team...eric mangini will bring something to the table herm never borught...superbowl rings..he built that strong DB and even created Ty Law. When the big names went down he trained young cbs to play
ok.... I agree Mangini will be better for us than Herm... Not sure what that has to do with our players meshing together and within the scheme?
Are you kidding? We are going undefeated. We have an inexperienced coaching staff, a dire QB situation, a RB who's about to retire and a completely new defensive scheme. 16-0 baby.
I think 7 to 9 wins is a possibility with some luck. I also think mentioning the Jet's defense in the same sentence with the Ravens and Bucs in their heyday is kind of like comparing Dewayne Robertson to Warren Sapp; there's a bit of talent on our side of the ledger but that's not going to stop you from getting laughed out of the room every time.
Man, I love the offseason!! You guys are a riot!!! Tanx for making a rather long assed day just a bit better! First off, we have to outscore the other team to win. Doesn't really matter how good our D is, we still have to put points on the board and that's the rub. We don't even know who our QB is, how to really play in Shott's new system which I might add is the 2nd NEW system in 2 years, or even IF we have a viable running game which we didn't possess last year. Face it boyz, anything we get is a bonus this year of transition. We're in a new era and it would be much better served if we GIVE THE NEW TANGINI JETS time to get their collective feet on the ground and find comfort in this new situation. For all practical purposes, this is a new regime. A completely revamped FO/CS. Predicting wins just to feel good about '06 is good therapy, but bad for season ticket holders and/or DirecTV buyers that want some ROI (Return on Investment). We won't win in Buffalo unless the Bills decide to take that particular game off. We ain't winning a lot of games this year but in the long run, that's not a bad thing. Relax guys and gals.. Things will get better. Until then, should you find yourself inna tight spot in some hostile sports bar or living room... "Just smile and wave boyz...smile and wave..."
