Don't you feel when all is said and done and Rex does hang it up, I hope many years from now, that he is a hall of fame guy just waiting to happen. Rex is like a piece of American folk lore a throw back American who says what he feels and lets the chips fall where they may. The man is just so real, an too many in the NFL today are all too phoney, this is why Rex is so loved and hated all at the same time. The funny part is, the folks who are raising the most hell about what a loud mouth he is, are the ones who secretly wish he was there coach....
It was an opinion based on an observation of a guy that's both morbidly obese and fairly histrionic in affect. Not exactly leading indicators of longevity. I could be dead wrong, but I don't think Rex's behavior bodes well for long term stability. And go fuck yourself.
hahaha With the explanation, I now respect the opinion. I wouldn't call that line of thinking insane or retarded. F U too homeslice
Sometimes Rex put his/wife foot in his mouth with these comments. Big deal Sports need characters like rex Ryan.
It's a good point.. IMO he's gone "all in" on this stint with the Jets. If he doesn't make good on his SB promise within the next season or two, how can he expect to stick around? You can't talk about winning a championship for too long without making it a reality. Otherwise other coaches would do it. They know they're setting themselves up for an epic failure if they fail to deliver. Don't get me wrong... I have a healthy respect for Rex Ryan and the Jets, especially after what happened in January, and he may well take the Jets all the way in the next year or two. But after going to back-to-back AFCCGs, you guys know how difficult it is to finish the job. He's not giving himself much of a shelf life if he doesn't get there fairly soon. Health-wise is a totally different story. It's hard to coach a team from a hospital bed... or a coffin. Add his weight issues to the mountain of stress that comes with coaching an NFL team, and it's not a good formula for anyone. (But then again, guys like Andy Reid are still upright, so you never know.)
Definitely true. I'm not sure how he'd go about his shtick if the Jets didn't win it all this season. It's nice as fans (when the team is good) to hear that the goal is the Superbowl and all that jazz but if he fails at that goal again I wonder if the team cuts ties with him or if Rex stops being so media happy with his expectations. I think Rex is a great coach as does Jets management by offering him an extension.. can't see him being terminated because he talks too much. Would it get annoying? Yeah probably, but it's no reason to fire the guy. Besides, Rex's bravado has shifted the Jets from NY's wet-towel franchise to an NFL blockbuster.
People are acting like Rex is so fat he can't get out of bed. Look at the longevity of guys like Parcells, Holmgren, Andy Reid, Mike McCarthy, Wade Phillips, etc... Rex did lose a lot of weight, just look at him compared to his brother. Rex was down 40 pounds in 3 weeks. The topic of his brash talk is just who he is. Rex has had much success in his first 2 years with a young QB, installing a new D, dealing with major injuries and crazy off the field issues. Rex will be our coach for a long time, if we don't win a SB in 2 years then it is what it is. The longer he's here the more stability our team will have and keep this success up for the long haul.
If he starts having losing seasons he'll get fired. If he keeps making the playoffs, even with the guarantees, he'll stay. And he's losing weight. He's not going to die or have a stroke any time soon.
I can picture fans becoming tired of his brashness if he can't deliver a SB in the next couple of years maybe, but I can't even remotely see Jets fans wanting him gone. Ryan is the best coach this team has had in a long-long time. The teams, since he got here, have been the best we've had in a long, long time. ....but right now, we LOVE his brashness.
He's officially the best since Weeb. The Jets can't be shit on as a franchise anymore. They aren't a mediocre franchise that enters the playoffs as a stepping stone for another team early on. The culture has changed completely. The fans expect to win, and win big. No more ducking and covering. Rex's brashness is exactly what this franchise has been lacking since Namath left. Its who the Jets should have been this entire time. A tough talking team that's fun to be around if you're a fan of them. Not some fucking low profile shit box with mediocrity written all over it. Those days are over.
People already don't like it but they can't really talk after his last two seasons. I am sure you have seen how the board gets when the jets lose a game or two. Imagine how much hate Rex will get if theY go 8-8 or 7-9 one year.
I remember thinking something strikingly similar right about the time Walt Michaels flamed out. Not to mention Parcells.
