    From PFT (lol):

Jets decide to decline all interview requests during lockout

In one of the great ironies in all of the sport, the team that soaked up attention like a sponge in the Sahara and that never saw a microphone into which its key employees weren’t willing to speak has decided to stifle themselves in the wake of the lockout.

Greg Bishop of the New York Times reports that the Jets will be making like turtles moving forward, refusing all opportunities to speak to the media.

“We believe an agreement will be reached,” Jets spokesman Bruce Speight told Bishop, regarding the status of the labor dispute. “Meanwhile, we’re working through it and preparing for the draft.”

And so the team that previously wouldn’t stop talking suddenly won’t be.

We don’t agree with the approach. Teams that crave attention can’t bury their heads in the sand at a time when they think they may face tough questions, including the decision to impose mandatory monthly furloughs at a time when few other teams will be using the inability of the league and the NFLPA* to figure out the money as an excuse for dipping into the pockets of employees who are bystanders to a $9 billion brouhaha.

So if the Jets won’t be talking at this critical juncture for the sport, the fans and the media should agree not to listen once the Jets decide that it’s safe to stick their heads back out of their shells.

That said, we think that Jets coach Rex Ryan will be able to adhere to the new approach for even less time than Kramer was able to stick to his vow of silence.

edit: the second to last paragraph is hilarious.

Wait so the Jets refusing media interviews during the lockout is being ripped. They should be applauded for the move for a multitude of reasons including a player or Woody or coach saying the wrong thing to infuriate the other. This is 1st class move yet of course somebody better break out the Kleenex because they'll actually have to do their work instead of allowing Rex or Bart Scott to do it for them.

Or... We don't like that the Jets won't talk to us, because now we won't have anything to bash the Jets about.

You just know everytime they post an article, it will include:

"We tried reaching the Jets for comment, but they're still not talking to the media"

    A sponge in the Sahara?

What exactly does a sponge soak up in the Sahara?

This is super smart. They've established themselves as the most desirable player destination in the NFL. The best move is shut the f up until this blows over. Players will remember what Jones and Richardson have said. With the Jets front office staying quiet, they will remain a player friendly organization.

Update: its OK - it was all a misunderstanding!

"The Jets have contacted us to say that’s not the case.

Speight advises PFT that the Jets routinely consider — and will continue to consider media requests on a case-by-case basis.

“Yesterday, our special teams coach, Mike Westhoff, spoke at a school,” Speight said. “His entire speech was on the record and he was available to media afterward where he fielded questions about the draft, pay reduction and the current labor situation.

“We shared a statement from Mr. Johnson over the weekend regarding the unions’ decision to decertify. On Friday, Mr. Johnson spoke at a business luncheon for the NJ Performing Arts Center and spoke with media afterwards.

“From a social media perspective, Matt Higgins, our EVP for Business Operations, is consistently engaging both fans and media through his Twitter account and we are engaging fans through our Facebook account.

“Quite honestly, we have not received a lot of requests.”

So there you have it. The Jets are still open for business, from a media perspective.

For at least three weeks out of each month."

Jeezus you can tell its the off season with even less to report about than usual.

Matt Higgins said they aren't declining all interviews.

    Case by case basis.

No need to be an ass about it. I thought it was a lame simile.
