And no one behind them. You need three quality and at least one more decent receiver in this league these days.
People do still run the ball a fair amount, and even when teams are passing the ball a ton you need good players near the line.
The transition tag has been used twice in the last five years and it didn't work one of the two times (Steve Hutchinson). The other team can put in all sorts of "poison pills" in the offer (the whole contract becomes guarantted if Harris has more than 20 tackles against AFC East teams in 2011 or if he plays more than two games in New Jersey in a league year). It really serves next to no purpose.
NFL does not equal offense. This isn't the National Offense League. Having the greatest offense to ever grace the NFL doesn't mean squat when you can't stop the other teams running game / short passing game. If your offense isn't on the field then they won't be very good. Short of losing Holmes or Edwards, the offense is far more talented player for player than the defense is. Blue chippers on D consist of Revis and Harris. Everyone else is very good to average. The offense has Sanchez, Greene, Edwards, Holmes, Keller, Mangold, and Ferguson. What we really need is a pass rush and a playcaller who doesn't have his head up his ass half the time.
I really do not understand why we would franchise Harris. Usually when you franchise someone it is due to assortment of things. 1. You are unsure of if he's recent 1 year of great play was a fluke. (not the case) 2. You think the player was just playing hard for the big contract. (not the case) 3. He is a health risk and you do not want to assign a long contract to him (not the case) 4. You want to sign and trade the player. 5. You can not agree on a long term contract. I don't understand why we just do not give him a large contract. I understand we can't resign him until we know the logistics and terms of the new Agreement, but why not apply this tag to a player we are unsure about. Or like others have posted, a player we would like to trade/get some value for rather than letting him hit the FA market.
CBA uncertainty will prevent a lot of long term contracts, including Harris'. I'm assuming that, after the CBA is sorted out, we use the franchise tag if we're unable to reach an extension with DH.
That is just your speculation. As of now the reports are we are franchising him. This is coming from espn nfl network and rotoworld.
Sure, but all anybody is doing right now is speculating. Nobody knows if there will even be a 2011 season, hence no long term contract talks.
You are OUT OF YOUR MIND. Has move value then harris? OMG, thats got to be one of the top 10 GangGreen posts of all time. Wow.....
I find it incredibly ironic that you're trying to bash someone for being stupid. David Harris is a hell of a player, but a game changing wideout is more valuable than an inside backer - especially for a team that's supposedly being built around its quarterback.
he had more in baltimore. we have an elite corner, and two very good ILB's on this team. nobody else individually is anything to get crazy over. rex has them in sync for the most part. edit: cromartie too.
