Doesn't it seem like we've been trying to trade him since Rex got here? And ironically, Rex was the one that said "no way".
Nope and nope. Everything depends on the CBA; the owners apparently insist on a cap and a franchise tag so it's a pretty good bet that you'll have of those in some form, but other than that it's a mystery.
I just wanted to throw this out there, we're not the only team in this situation. Right now our cap number is right around $120 million with 18 FAs. The Packers are at $129 million with 15 FAs. Some big names on their list as well. Such as AJ Hawk, Jenks, and Kuhn, just to name a few. The Ravens are at about $101 million, Including restricted and unrestricted FAs the Ravens have 26. (roughly) Also some key players on their list, including 7 starters and key role players. Including, Ngata, Wilson, Carr, Landry, McClain, and both their punter & kicker. (Koch&Cundiff) On top of that they have on that list Marc Bulger, LB- Prescott Burgess, G/C- Chris Cheste, OT- Jared Gaither, LS-Kevin Houser, WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, OT Tony Moll, WR Donte' Stallworth, CB- Fabian Washington, and OT/G Marshal Yanda. DT Kelly Talavou. I'm only pointing this out because the media paints the picture like we are the only team that has a lot of work to do. These are the first 2 teams I checked simply because of the players on the list.
I think the Jets might actually be at 128 (http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/37327/looking-at-2011-salary-cap-figures) - I know NY Jets cap has it at 118.5 but they don't have this supposed $10 million roster bonus that Taylor is due and that's the discrepancy. No way Taylor gets paid that money so the better way to look at is the Jets are at 118 or so and Taylor is essentially a free agent. I think you're off on the Packers- they're at 129 if they keep AJ Hawk, who is under contract, but Hawk is due $10 million so they probably let him go or restructure.
Well the first rumor was bullshit (Harris for Edwards). The Harris for Marshall rumors probably had legs but Denver wanted a first round pick too.
QB: Sanchez, Ainge, UFA RB: Greene, LT, McKnight, Conner WR: Edwards, Cotchery, Smith, Turner, FA or draft pick TE: Keller, Cumberland, Mulligan OL: Ferguson, Slauson, Mangold, Moore, Woody, Ducasse, Hunter, Turner NT: Pouha, Jenkins, Draft Pick, Tevaseau DE: Ellis, DeVito, Pitoitua, Gilbert, Dixon LB: Pace, Wimbley, BLT, draft pick, Harris, Scott, Mauga, Westermann CB: Revis, Cromartie, Wilson, Cole, Coleman, FA S: Leonard, Lowery, E. Smith, Ihedigbo, Landry, draft pick or E. Cook LS: Purdum K: Folk P: Weatherford Comments: As part of the new CBA I think roster size grows to 55. At QB, I think Ainge's troubles are behind him, he re-commits himself to football and wins the backup spot over Brunell and Brunell retires. The Jets sign a rookie QB prospect to hold the clipboard. They're set at RB. At WR, they decide that they cannot afford to keep both Holmes and Edwards, and with their commitment to run the ball, and Edwards' commitment to blocking in the run game, his desire to stay here, his presenting a big target (especially with Sanchez' tendency to be wild high) and his greatly improved play, they decide that he is a better fit than Holmes and let Holmes sign elsewhere. At TE, they've had it with Hartsock's stupid penalties. Mulligan has improved as a blocker, plus they plan on using Turner and Hunter more as TEs to block. On the OL, they decide that they cannot do without Woody for at least one more season. They don't believe Ducasse will be ready, and while they like Hunter, don't have confidence in him, as he's had some struggles in the past and had some injury issues. With their recommitment to running the ball, Woody is a necessity. On the DL the Jets draft an NT prospect in the 3rd or 4th round to rotate with Pouha as they aren't confident in Tevaseau or Jenkins' ability to stay healthy. They bring back Ellis for one more season at DE. At LB, in an effort to improve their pass rush, they use some of the money that would have gone to Holmes to sign Kamerion Wimbley and draft an OLB prospect in round one (Houston, Sheard or Beal). They get BLT to re-negotiate to save some cap space. At CB they sign Cromartie to an incentive-laden one-year deal. The basic cost is very reasonable. Cromartie's money will come based on the number of passes he defenses, his number of interceptions, his number of tackles and if the Jets make the 2nd round of hte playoffs. They also sign a 2nd tier FA to shore up the position. At S, the Jets use most of the rest of the money that Holmes would have received to sign Dawan Landry away from the Ravens as insurance in case Leonard isn't fully recovered and to rotate with Leonard if he is. They also draft an "enforcer" with speed in a lower round to groom.
The Jets top 51 number is 118, but total cap value is 120. As far as the Packers go that's what it was without Hawk but I could be wrong. Anyway, I was just pointing those out to calm some Jet fans down.
Not me. He's never played in a 3-4 alignment and is coming off a major injury that could force him to retire with one hit. No thanks. Wimbley's a solid, if unspectacular performer at the position and would be an immediate upgrade over BLT or Pace as a pass rusher.
But the Jets cap numbers don't include any 2011 roster bonus for Taylor, right? They don't on nyjetscap. It's money that's not getting paid but I think it would logically be included. I don't see why the Packers numbers wouldn't include Hawk. He's under contract for $10 million next year.
It's not just from their but the $10 million bonus isn't triggered just by showing up. Taylor's guaranteed money is $750,000 with a base of 2.275. If he gets 10 sacks it increases 1.25, and increases to 2 if he gets 12 sacks. The $10 mill is based on playing time and other performance triggers, so just based on playing time alone he would not reach it. If he's here, which is still unknown. Either way it's not guaranteed.
my idea is that tanny can get 2 of the 3 signed plus retain harris via the tag.then the e.smith,b.smith,diggs,pool group can decide if they want whats left to stay here
That's the whole point of an early prediction thread - to see if you can predict what the opening lineup will look like in 2011 before there is certainty. No one knows what the squad will look like yet. This thread is an early offseason exercise to help pass the time. No more, no less.
QB: Sanchez, Pennington I think Pennington is brought back as our veteran and provides an upgrade over Brunnel for the same price RB: Greene, McKnight, LT Jets will be set at RB for years FB: Connor Richardson retires and Connor comes in and does what he does best OL: D'Brick, Slauson, Mangold, Moore, Hunter/Ducasse Woody goes because he's old WR: Edwards, Cotch, Danny Amendola Holmes has won a Superbowl MVP and hasn't gotten a huge pay day he's going to go where the money is. Smith as well is gonna expect big money. I think the the FO brings in a reciever with heart like Danny Amendola or similar TE: Keller, Cumberland DEFENSE DE: C. Jenkins, Ellis, Pitoitua, Devito I think we go out and sign the little Jenkins Brother and Ellis signs for a reasonable price. DT: K. Jenkins, Pouha Jenkins restructures his contract him a Pouha split time OLB: Pace, FA/Rookie, Westerman Pace is the obvious starter. BT and JT both get cut... I think we bring in one of the top name free agents like Tamba Hali or Woodley if they don't resign with there team if they do we go to a rookie ILB: Harris, Scott I think once there is a CBA Harris gets signed long term CB: Revis, Wilson, Coleman/FA Cro is gone. hes gonna want to much money so the Jets will give Wilson his shot. I would like to think the jets would bring in a FA upgrade over Coleman but year in and year out he remains. SS: Leonhard, Smith FS: Lowery, Poole Poole gets resigned and the jets move forward with their current safteys SPECIAL TEAMS P: Weatherford Was good this year no reason for him not to be back K: Folk Jets go forward with folk KR: Amendola PR: Leonhard
