Yeah, that's what I've been saying the whole time. I just said the players brought this up and you took issue with it. I never implied they were going to get a team salary and a TV salary or anything like that. It was always about the percentages. I didn't think it was a big deal. I know all about the 2011 TV contracts, that issue was separate from the salary cap issue I was referring to. I only brought it up because when that happened it was 08 and things started from that point. I never confused the two. Did you read that the owners want to cut the cap by 18%? Earlier in the thread you asked where I heard anything about the cap being reduced. I brought that up, and after I brought up the TV deals because it had to do with players not wanting a lower cap. Follow me?
Here's what you originally said: So please explain how that makes any sense compared to what you just said? No where has it ever been a part of the CBA issue that the players want a bigger chunk of the TV revenue. Unless I've completely missed something. The 18% "pay cut" I believe is a cut in revenue percentage and not the actual cap. You have to read that carefully because they aren't saying the cap will reduce by 18%. They're saying the money available for the cap would be 18% less of the profits - the profits continue to grow though. They are attempting to slow down the rate that the cap is increasing in proportion to the revenue claiming there are increased costs which make there margin not good enough.
Don't forget that we made it to the AFC Championship with just Braylon Edwards. Not only do I feel he is the slightly better/more important receiver but he more embodies the heart of the Jets imo.
The 18% cut that was brought up comes off the total revenue, which is how the salary cap is determined. The only thing I was trying to get across is to much surprise to some owners actually want to lower the cap. It's just assumed that it would go up in the new agreement but it might not. The TV thing was pointless to bring up, I was just pointing it out for the players side of the argument.
Edwards could be in jail though for violating his probation in Ohio. Braylon could be jailed for his assault their and who knows how the DUI will play out.
The fact that both have previous violations has to help our case for keeping both of them. Braylon had a great year and so did Holmes. The front office is going to look at the maturation of Mark Sanchez to be the number one priority and that will put a lot of pressure for Tanny to keep both. The one thing about tanny is that he is an expert when it comes to working the cap numbers and if I have faith in one thing with this off season it is that. Harris is a staple of this defense and I would be heart broken if we let him walk. Maybe Slauson stays at LG and Turner and Ducasse battle it out for RT position. I was very impressed with Turner at the end of the season and it is Ducasse natural position. It is crucial that Kyle Wilson plays up to his ability next year and from what I have heard it seems that the Front office is relying on that pretty hard. If they can keep Harris, Holmes and Edwards everything else will work out.. they better be feeding our Scout Adderal for the next 3 months and we better find some gems in the draft. Rex will take the pressure of younger less known players on his defense and work them in with his schemes... i don't think anyone could expect the same from Shotty who needs all the help he can get...
I so hope this is true. Mark brought them up today in regards to wanting to have time to talk about things while he was making his rounds:
my issue is that did braylon have a good season BECAUSE he was in a contract year? whereas I feel that santonio had a stellar season despite missing four games, and holmes clearly seemed to have developed a better rapport with holmes than edwards did. but keeping the two of them will be clutch. i would be interested to see if braylon drops off if he signs a new contract. cotchery is my favorite jets wideout of all time. he defines what the mentality of a football player should be... he goes out, plays, selfless, never brings negative attention to himself or the team. santonio is the best wideout, best athlete on the team besides darrelle revis.
i've seen this braylon playing for a contract thing mentioned a few times on this board. i'm just wondering why. other than the obvious motivation that every player in a contract year has to play their best, what makes braylon a more likely candidate than santonio to take it lax once he gets his payday? i'm not arguing one way or the other, just trying to see if you guys have evidence of this that i haven't seen.
I am trying to remember who it was, but a former Browns QB (Not Quinn or Anderson, pre-dates them) said in a radio interview earlier this season, that when he left the Browns he told the front office something like: they should be weary of Edwards because he plays football because he likes what it brings him, not because he loves the game. he feels that he has more of a Hollywood attitude. I still hope they bring him and Holmes back, He has a lot of talent and hopefully Rex can bring it all out.
Anyway the braylon/holmes/smith offseason fiasco works out I hope we can all agree we need to draft a receiver or two this year we could really use some youth and depth in this group
Last Jet to be drafted at WR that is still on the team, Henry was drafted several years ago, but could never break the practice squad.
I updated the post, I realized that I have the wrong Turner as a resticted Free Agent (Robert Turner is). I moved him to the current starter and moved Payne to the backup spot (for now).
Good call, sad that i remembered Henry over Stuckey. I think I had higher expectations for Henry that he never came close to living up to. Stuckey did catch Sanchez's first NFL TD pass, and had a costly fumble that helped us beat the Browns this season.
The Redskins are voiding Santana Moss' contract. I wouldn't mind bringing him back if the price is right - I think he'd be a hell of a pick up.
