http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/columns/story?columnist=cimini_rich&id=6042765 I'm sure a lot of you have read this already or it has probably already been posted. I tried searching. Anyway, I thought this was pretty cool. The perks of being a beat writer for a million years.
geez - of those QB's the one i would have liked to have read comments by would be Todd - who also won the 2 raod games in 82-83 and than laid an egg in miami.... i get the feeling from obriens comments about coaching that he wanted to rip walton a new one. jil
This is a results driven league - Sanchez has lined up under center in 5 playoff games on the road and won four of them. End of story...
Great article... Kenny O is still my favorite Jets QB. It would have been amazing what he could have done if he ever had a good OL. With the weapons he had and the defense if only.....
Jealous dicks. They all had shitty completion percentages in their first two years. Vinny especially, 43% and 47.6%.
I always forget that Kenny O never won in the playoffs. I can remember the wild card win over Kansas like it was yesterday but I always think Ken played in that game and not Pat Ryan.
The Mud Bowl was 0-0 at the half....Joe Walton got too aggressive in the 2nd half.....who here saw the game ? Field was atrocious.....you couldn't run 1/2 speed without falling down.
I was at that KC game... Ryan played the best game of his career that day. I think I may have been 6 or 7.
Why are people ripping these ex-Jets QB's? I don't think they made an inaccurate statement anywhere in the article. In fact, they were all spot on. I didn't read any negative comments, just ojecvtive observations. Sanchez is still developing and improving. He hasn't hit any ceiling. He has all the intangables. He has plenty of room for improvement, especially regarding accuracy and his slow starts. He isn't an elite QB now. He may be some day. In the meantime, he is a good QB, just like these guys said.
I have to give Cimini credit, it looks like the playoffs have made him raise his level. To borrow a modified football term, Cimini is usually a 3 yards and a cloud of douche writer. This is a good article. It really is weird how little success this franchise has had. Funny how a gathering of the best QB's and the best one has 2 playoff wins.....
No Browning Nagle quotes? I call bullshit on that. And, the mudbowl was the first NFL game I remember seeing. Been a Jets fan ever since. Kind of a bummer, that, most days.
Joe Walton panicked during the 5-game slide to end the season...went with Pat Ryan, who had been a Jet backup from the 1970's. Relationship between Walton and O'Brien went south, just like in 1983 with Richard Todd during Year 1 of Meadowlands. Walton was a helluva OC -- Todd did a 180 in 1981 from 1980 (30 ints !!) -- but he was the first in a long string of great OC's/DC's who would make terrible HC's.
