Didn't see it posted elsewhere, but former Broncos tight end Nate Jackson writes a column for Deadspin, and he wrote about "The genius of Rex Ryan's trash talking." Great to get a player's perspective.

I said it from the very beginning, the tactics Rex was using was pure genius and it began before we even beat Indy.

keep it goin REX... thats my coach

  4. It's not often you find a HC who is motivating, player friendly, good w/ X's and O's, and a quality evaluator. Rex is the whole package..regardless of what happens on Sunday.

See here's the big difference between what we do, and what Wes Welker did........I think the author is right, that Brady and co probably didn't take what Cromartie or any of the players said, very seriously, because they know that the media coaxes that shit out of them.

Wes Welker's comments on the other hand, were a premeditated attack on both Ryan and his wife. A enormous mistake in a situation like this, given (a) the MASSIVE love Rex's team has for him, and (b) the fact wives and children should always be out of bounds.

Wes Welker f*cked up large.........and BB knew it.

So he starts him on Punt returns ST saw the field before their offense. So Welker started the game.

I honestly feel like the talking was to avert the media's attention away from Brady v. Sanchez. So they wouldn't harp Sanchez all week on his errant passes in the previous playoff games, etc.

I also can't call Rex a "genius" yet because of the Mangini situation. Rex is way ahead of Mangini but after the 10-4 season everyone called him Mangenius. I need about 4 solid more years performance like 2010-2011 season.

I don't think BB's benching of Welker was disciplinary. Rather BB was being an arrogant smug asshole who thought he'd win even with his star receiver on the bench for a few minutes.

So one fluke year with mediocre talent equates to two AFC championship appearances?

    I'm afraid you're sadly mistaken.

^ Not sure where you get that from?

I said Rex is "way" ahead of Mangini.

However, I am not going to be quick to label someone a genius again.

When a coach invents a new defense for a specific game and embarrasses the NFL's top team, you gotta know the guy is a defensive genius.

So what are the tactics this week? Seems like a lovefest coming from the Steelers locker room. Where is the hate motivation coming from this week. Rapistburger almost sounded like he was conceding the game, the D is too good. What the hell??

Too bad he can't motivate you to not make stupid comments in the game threads about playing Brunell over our starting QB.

Absolutely, but we've gone from general to specific here.

It comes from respect which can drive a player just as much. Knowing you're playing a team that will punch you in the face if you let your guard down.

That and if we win we're in the freakin Super Bowl. Steelers were the last AFC team to win it so to take the best out of our conference is also a motivator.

Again, Rex said it best. It's the AFC Championship game, if you need anything else to get you amped up you probably shouldn't be playing.

Rex Ryan's track record as a coach in the NFL >>>>>>> Mangini's track record as a coach in the NFL
